2021-22 Big 12 WBB Players of the Week - Big 12 Conference
Nov. 15 Ayoka Lee, Kansas State, C Rori Harmon, Texas, G
Nov. 22 Ashley Joens, Iowa State, G Rhyle McKinney, Texas Tech, G
Nov. 29 NaLyssa Smith, Baylor, F Serena Sundell, Kansas State, G
Dec. 6 Ana Llanusa, Oklahoma, G Brylee Glenn, Kansas State, G
Dec. 13 Lauren Heard, TCU, G Serena Sundell, Kansas State, G
Dec. 20 Ayoka Lee, Kansas State, C Brylee Glenn, Kansas State, G
Dec. 27 Taylor Robertson, Oklahoma, G Rori Harmon, Texas, G
Jan. 3 Ayoka Lee, Kansas State, C Kelbie Washington, Oklahoma, G
Jan. 10 Emily Ryan, Iowa State, G Serena Sundell, Kansas State, G
Jan. 17 Skylar Vann, Oklahoma, Rori Harmon, Texas
Jan. 24 Ayoka Lee, Kansas State, Jaelyn Glenn, Kansas State
Jan. 31 Jordan Lewis, Baylor, Kelbie Washington, Oklahoma
Feb. 7 Madi Williams, Oklahoma, Brylee Glenn, Kansas State
Feb. 14 NaLyssa Smith, Baylor. JJ Quinerly, West Virginia
Feb. 21 Vivian Gray, Texas Tech, Rori Harmon, Texas

POY: Looks likely Lee will grab the POY, which is pretty impressive for a Jr. Lee is probably the prototypical Post that folks on this board have been pining for.

FOY: Rori has some good competition for FOY. But the fact that Sundell and both Glenn's play for the same team may split the vote in favor of Rori.

NoY: If memory serves, the B12 also names a newcomer of the year. I would think Aliyah has a good chance for this honor.

Edited: 2/22/22. Rori with 4, Brylee Glenn with 3, Serena Sundell with 3.

Zig72, I agree with your assessment. It's Ayoka Lee's Big 12 POY award to lose right now. FOY is between Sundell and Rori. It's a close battle between them two. And yes, there is both a Newcomer of the Year, which I agree with you Matharu fits the bill, and a Defensive Player of the Year award, which I think is also Ayoka's to lose.

What will be interesting also is the 1st Team All-Big 12. I can see Iowa State putting 3 players on that team with Joens, Donarski, and Emily Ryan.

Also interesting is one-dimensional Taylor Robertson who impacts the game with her shooting 3's but is a defensive liability and doesn't do much else. Last year she was 2nd team, I believe.

It's noteworthy that Nalyssa Smith has only been named Player of the Week once this season. In my opinion, WBB is more interesting when there is parity within the conference and on the national stage.

I honestly wasn't that impressed by Ryan last night - if the refs actually called her for the arm bar to create space and she had to stop using it, Rori would've gotten double digit steals. I was getting flashbacks to all the K-State point guards who have been doing the same for years. Letting them get away with it does a disservice to the player in the long run because they need to learn how to control their defender/create space legally. If they have intentions to play professionally, it's a rude awakening.

Lee may be the front runner. Don't forget Joens though.

Agree DFW, Emily Ryan wasn't all that impressive last night and all credit goes to Rori and Vic's high pressure defense. Unfortunately I don't think all the coaches watch many games on television. However, Emily Ryan leads the conference in assists by a wide margin and also leads in assist-TO ratio. Based on that, I think she'd make All-Big 12 First Team.

Yes, you have to watch Rori play to see how much she impacts the game. Iowa State centric color commentator spoke often of Rori’s game management last night.

With the season ending today, my best crack on who will win individual awards before it is announced (presumably) tomorrow.

    POY: Nalyssa Smith
    DPOY: Ayoka Lee
    FOY: Rori Harmon
    6th Man: Aliyah Matharu
    COY: Jennie Baranczyk

    1st Team:
    Jordan Lewis
    Nalyssa Smith
    Lexi Donarski
    Ashley Joens
    Emily Ryan
    Ayoka Lee
    Taylor Robertson
    Madi Williams
    Rori Harmon
    Vivian Gray

    2nd Team:
    Holly Kersgieter
    Serena Sundell
    Lauren Fields
    Aliyah Matharu
Lauren Heard - was 1st team last year, but she plays on a terrible team.

I think Newcomer will be Jordan Lewis, coach of the year Collen.

If they vote like the SEC coaches did (coach with the most talented/experienced roster wins the most), then you're right. If they wanted to recognize the best coaching job and far exceeding expectations, it'd have to be either Baranczyk or Schneider. Hell, Vic would have a better claim to the award than Collen:
    • Lost the overall #1 Pick
    • 2nd best Player transferred out
    • Replaced a grad PG with a true freshman

Agree about Lewis, but Colleen no. Her team was picked 1st. I think Brandon Schneider from Kansas should get it. They were picked last.

I'm holding out for Audrey to be 6th Man and Aliyah to be Newcomer.

Considering she started almost the entire season, I don’t think Audrey has a very good chance at 6th Man. I’d put Aliyah at 6th man with Lewis as Newcomer.

My goodness....not one first team selection? Makes me think I'm too much of a "homer" cause I just dont understand Iowa St with 3 picks and we have none...oh well..sigh

Yeah, if you don't average like 15 points a game, you're not gonna get First Team in an offensive league like the Big 12. Or, if you average a huge number of assists if you are a point guard.

Suprised Lauren Ebo didn't make the All Defensive Team; nobody did a better job defending Ayoka Lee than Ebo. Someone will have to tell me what Lexi Donarski did to earn Defensive Player of the Year.

O I’m pissed although it could have been worse but no first team selections and Ebo and Warren not on the defensive teams. I just don’t understand the logic here. Proves it’s a popularity contest. It just doesn’t add up how the beat defensive team didn’t have the defensive player of the year or at the least more than 1 person on the all D team

Could be retaliation for Texas leaving the Big 12 conference.

Well, they both average 17 points a game. So, that would be too obvious to exclude them.

And, don't you know that the other Big 12 schools blame Texas, not OU ? :rolleyes1:
