this thread is proof, to me, that horn fans and ou fans are a lot more similar than you like to think.

Not really defending it, but just pointing out, that sixty or so years ago, "Give 'em Hell" was considered inappropriate for fans to yell and for children to hear. The original words were "Hail Hail The Gang's All Here."

They didn't have the InterTubes yet, but I'm sure it was constant water cooler talk.

Anyway, I've seen people act like a-holes and beg for retaliation, and then complain about bad treatment later. People who are looking for a fight will pretty much always find one.

Look, we're never gonna out-nice the Nebraska fans. What's the use of having the best stadium in the Big XII if it doesn't give us much of a home field advantage? I wouldn't mind it that much if teams coming here had to worry about how loud our fans are...sorta like Death Valley fans in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night when they're off of their meds. Football isn't tea and crumpets...it should be nachos and cerveza here, and fans with loud mouths. We're not gonna get treated nice in Lubbock and other Big XII pitstops by trying to win the sportsmanship trophy. [IMG]

    cloydtex,

At the 2002 game I went to the bathroom at halftime and was using a stand up urinal and some dipsh** college student chest bumped me in the back and yelled "YOU'RE IN OUR HOUSE". All the other Tech fans errupted in laughter. I thought about turning around and piss on his leg, but I didn't feel like getting my *** beat up by a mob of Tech students with my pecker hanging out.

Some of you are missing the point so bad it's not even funny. They can be loud as they want. But there is a difference when they get in your face yelling at you while spit coming out on your face.

I think all any visiting fan wants and should get is respect. They can tell me all they want my team sucks *** as long as they don't do it in a threatening way. If being treated disrespectful is expected for visiting fans then that tells us where we are as a society.........which is not good.

I'm going to call BS on the writer of the DT article posted by the OP. I was in section 105. There was a group of 8 TT fans right in front of me. They did their guns up dance every time TT had a big play and the TT band struck up a tune. NO ONE INSULTED THEM the entire game. The fans in section 105 were completely courteous to the TT fans. The lack of detail in the DT article smacks of BS.

What I WAS embarrassed about was the fact that only a few of the UT fans in my section were making noise, or doing the traditional TEXAS... FIGHT... or other chants, songs, cheers. And the lackluster fan participation was occurring BEFORE the lackluster longhorn performance could have really justified it.

Way too many rich old donors sitting noiseless unless we score a touchdown or get a sack. I'm 43 and was trying to make lots of noise. Most around me just sat on their asses and kept stuffing their fat faces. Just my opinion.

My SIL and nephew sat in our seats. She's an Aggie and he's a Techster. He brought two friends (both TT, I believe). They only saw/experienced one minor incident.

He was in line at the concessions, and one UT fan about his age (early 20s) commented that he couldn't count change anyway because he was a TT fan. Nephew was a bouncer in college, so his instinct is to not take any **** from smartasses. Anyway, he turned to challenge the Texas fan, and the Texas fan's proud dad told Texas fan that it was probably a good time to walk away. End of incident.

My nephew commented that most of the TT people he saw in section 4 were there with Texas fans, so there was a lot of Kumbaya being sung. The Texas fans around him were friendly, which is what I expected having had those seats for about 15 years.

Leaving the UT at Missouri game in 2005, my dad and I were in the car listening to the post-game show for Missouri. A caller phoned in and complained that the Texas band played before the fourth quarter when Missouri's band was trying to play some waltz. My dad, a 60-year-old immigrant to this country, turned to me and said:

    "That's losertalk."

    Almost pissed myself.

The question was not have Tech fans ever been tacky to visiting teams in their stadium. The question was about whether there was bad fan behavior from Texas fans at DKR Saturday night. It isn't do unto others as they did unto you last year. It's "do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Once again I feel the need to ask if any of you went to kindergarten or had mothers.

Booing another team for entering the stadium is classless bad fan behavior. Yelling over another team's school song is classless bad fan behavior. Using the F word in the stands with children sitting on the row in front of you is classless bad fan behavior. Getting so drunk you can't find your seat even with four friends yelling your name from three rows away is classless bad fan behavior. I witnessed all of those Saturday and I was not in the student section. Yes, there was bad fan behavior at DKR on Saturday night.

What kind of abuse are you getting:
I have to admit Ignatius that was funny, but actually the baptists were doing worse things than that the last time I went. They actually think in terms of a moral victory if we only beat them by 40. [IMG]

On another thread I confessed to getting caught up in the "disrespect" and booing. I should clarify that I didn't do it loud enough for anyone but my husband and maybe the girl in front of us to hear. It just made me feel better. I was there in Lubbock last year and had the misfortune of being in the front row right behind the Tech student section. Awful, awful experience. Then there was the lovely experience if being followed and yelled at, cursed at, and booed by 3 Tech students for about 10 blocks from the stadium to my car. I can't help if it left a bit of a wound that's been festering for almost a year. In my head it's nice to think that I'm above that childishness and could just hold my head up high and know that we are better than them but it's hard to make your emotions and your body follow suit.

On the other hand we could also take into account the Tech fans we were unfortunate enough to have in our section, section 18, NEZ chairbacks. One of them is so drunk he throws up all over himself and the chair in front of him, then tries to convince APD that he's alright. Yeah, they ended up escorting him out. Dumbass caused the 2 people with him to have to leave too. Then there's the other guy who, during a commercial break, stands up, turns around to the rest of us, and says "Why are you all sitting down? This is the biggest game in Texas!" Hello? You're sitting in donor seats, in the adult section, and you already know you're the hated visitor. Shut up and sit down if you don't want to be harrassed back!

wadster, I hear you. I raised my kids the same way, and I try to keep from using profanity when children are around. However, Texas Jack makes a good point. Something about Texas football brings out the deepest emotions in fans especially if it involves rivals like OU, A&M, or revenging a loss from last year. This is not a ballet concert we are watching, but UT football.

Wadster, I understand where you're coming from. I was taught the same way you were, and I don't condone the chant. I am just saying that it has been around a long time, and I doubt it is going anywhere anytime soon.

To anyone who has a story that starts with, "We asked him to sit down and he..."

Please stop asking people to SIT DOWN at a football game! Look, if you can't manage to be a real fan, stand up, and make some noise in a game like Tech then you are part of the problem. We have maybe 3 games on our schedule that are the caliber of tech. Come willing to use your legs, and lose your voice. It is your responsibility for being one of the fortunate ones who have the privilege of attending the game.

At the very LEAST don't EVER ask ANYONE to EVER sit down. And if you hear someone asking another to sit down, you better suggest to that fan he reevaluate his attitude. [IMG]

When the hell did our fan base become a bunch of pansies? It's a football game, you are supposed to YELL, get loud, STAND UP and lose your voice. All the whining I'm hearing on hear makes me want to [IMG] I'm happy people could hear it on TV, it's just too bad it wasn't LOUDER!!!

Going to an opposing teams stadium is not supposed to be a kumbaya let's all hold hands and hug experiance for the visiting team. I can guarantee you that at Tech, aTm, OSU, and in dallas once the Eyes of Texas start up that those fans there will be yelling right over it...you gonna start crying "but we don't do this when you come to our house"

Obviously you do not want to cuss at other fans...ours or the other team, but to not expect fans to get worked up for a game like tech is just [IMG]

Why can't women hear cuss words? Kids, i get, but women?

They fought long and hard to not be delicate, lesser humans. They can hear bad words and still be o.k.
