BATTING

Because you said Kennedy was not better than O'Dowd WRT batting. Perhaps I misunderstood what you were getting at.
DK has batted below avg this year
Jack has batted WELL below avg this year

The thing with Jack is that he's shown a propensity to go on hot streaks at the end of the year, and I'd hate to miss out on that (if it wasn't a "one off").

And

Jack - lacks range, but doesn't make too many errors
DK - exceptional range, but makes too many errors

BELYEU’s stats are holding up after another weekend of Summer ball.

Batting Avg 0.386
OPS 1.027

Not a flash in the pan.
Belyeu showed what he had in Summer ball. Some of these guys tear it up in Summer ball, then have break out seasons the next year.

With three games left, they have a good chance at surpassing the106 estimate for the season I predicted. Only 25 HR’s from their season record.

I don’t think they will break 128 though even if we count the postseason, don’t believe we will go deep enough to reach it.

Yeah. This will be the all-time #2 homerun team for UT.

Even if we crap out in the Regionals - say we play 3 games, that gives us a total of 6 games left. Figure 9-10 homeruns in those games, so we're looking at 112-113 homeruns on the year. More if we make the Supers and the College World Series.

On edit--Oh yeah, 2-3 games in the Big 12 championship = 2-6 more homers. So make it 114-119 homeruns on the year.

Powell had a good Summer Ball season before he broke out last year.

Ace Whitehead and Max Grubbs has good Summer Ball seasons before this, their break out years.

Don’t forget the Big XII tournament. Depending on how quickly we exit. We could hit 3-10 lol. I can’t imagine us going deeper than three games in any event, we only have enough pitching for two games, a third game is a complete coin flip.

Having a team that hits this many homeruns is huge, especially considering how few homeruns we have historically hit. It makes us a very dangerous team for any given game, even against the top competition. Kudos to the staff, esp. Tulo.

The only year we hit more homeruns was Ivan's last year here.

We’re up to 109 homeruns on the year!

Very impressive job by Coach Pierce, Tulo, and the Texas Longhorns batting lineup!

Home runs are nice, but I don’t really care about hitting a lot of home runs in a season with a third place finish in conference play, quick exit in the big 12 tournament, and no home regional. I prefer a pitching staff with a team ERA in the 3s instead of almost 5 (4.87 when I checked today) so maybe you don't have to hit so many home runs.

I'd take both.

Team ERA < 3.00
Avg Runs Scored by our Offense > 7

This batting lineup has the chance to be one of our best ever.

Probable Starters
Belyeu 0.335 20 HR
Flores 0.335 20 HR
Schuesler 0.325 13 HR
Winfield 0.325 12 HR
Gasparino 0.280 10 HR
Galvan 0.275 10 HR
Rodriguez 0.300 6 HR
Borba 0.290 6 HR
Mendoza 0.255 3 HR

WHERE IS THE WEAK LINK ABOVE???
Mendoza? He'll bat well above the "Mendoza line."

And Top 3 in the Nation in Homeruns.

We're scoring points galore this year.

Back-ups
Farmer 0.280 3 HR
Stewart 0.260 3 HR
Chamberlain 0.300 5 HR

Taking a stab at the HR total for the season:

Belyeu - 20
Schuessler - 13.5
Flores - 20
Galvan - 10
Gasparino - 15.5
Winfield - 12
Rodriguez - 6
Borba - 9
Mendoza - 5

Total - 111

Dang, I wasn't expecting the total to be near last year's total but it comes in 1 less.

I'm not even counting Stewart's or Chamberlains numbers.

Jared Thomas only hit 4 HR's his freshman year and I gave Rodriguez 2 more than that, I think that is generous, i was conservative with the rest of them. Still looks like a very good year offensively but now we have a better defense and better/deeper pitching staff. Exciting year.

Chop - I didn't even look at your numbers until after I posted mine and we came out pretty dang close.

I think your original number for A Rod is more realistic.

Only real delta between yours and mine is with Gasparino. I've heard he has put on some muscle and I expect him to hit a few more than last year. The rest of them we are almost dead on or very very close.
