It's the final Big 12 series of the season and Baylor comes to Austin, as the opponent. Both teams have struggled all year and would have to win the Big 12 Tournament, for any further post season games.

Baylor is 22-26 for the year and 8-13, in conference play. They are still battling to make the conference tourney, a series win over TCU last week in Waco, helped a lot. Texas is 21-28 and 9-12 in Big 12 action, the Horns can still possibly finish anywhere from 3-9, in the standings, but most likely 5-7 is the probable outcome. Lots of scenarios left, as to where teams will finish in the Big 12, exept for Tech, who has wrapped up the title.

    Line-ups to come.

A pop up to second is a big out two.

Barrera bats righty, with runners on the corners, with two away.
Big situation, as you have probabaly your best hitter up, with the tying runs on, a big two out hit is needed, to get back in the game.
A hard grouner to third and off the glove of the third baseman, the single does plate a run and break long scoreless streak, that went 13 innings plus.

    Baylor leads 2-1.

Mathis bats in the same situation, runners on the corners, two down.
He sends a shallow fly ball to left, to end the inning.

Stretch time in the first game of the last conference series of the year and Baylor leads 2-1.

  18. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Tolson will stay in and pitch the Horn seventh, after being touched for a run in the last frame.

Texas will bring up Gurwitz, batting from the right side, to lead off.
Fly ball to right and it's one down.

Kacy Clemens bats lefty, with one away.
A grounder just to the right of second base is through, for a single, for a runner.

Righty hitter is Rand, with a man on and one gone.
A grounder up the middle again and the second baseman backhands it and flips to second, the 4-6 is two down, on a nice play.

Baker bats righty, with a man on and two away.
    Rand should go here.
He does and steals the base with ease, to get into scoring position.
A two out hit to the outfield, will most likely tie the game, with Rand's speed.
A full count reached and a fly ball to center will end the frame.

Seven gone and it's Baylor ahead 2-1.

  19. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Ridgeway will stay on and pitch the eitghth, he had a perfect seventh.

Esthay leads off, for the Bears, batting lefty.
A chopper to second goes 4-3, one down.

Righty hitting Sheppard up, with one out.
Another grounder to second and it's two away.

Dodson bats lefty, with two gone.
He has two hits in the game.
A fly ball to left and the side down again in order.

Ridgeway looks sharp, but Baylor leads 2-1, bottom of the eighth.

  20. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Tolson tries to get through the Horn eighth, as Baylor does have a good closer, who would probably pitch the ninth, if the lead holds.

Texas leads off the frame with the bottom of the order, in McKenzie, batting right handed.
A grounder up the middle and through for a lead single, tying run on.

Top of the order is Jones, batting righty, with a man on.
He bunts and the sac goes 2-3, tying run to second, one down.

Kody Clemens, bats lefty, with a man on and one down.
He has also been struggling, at the plate.
He grounds to second, the 4-3, is two away, runner to third.

So it's up to Barrera again, he drove in the only Texas run of the game, with two outs, he needs another clutch hit, to tie the game.
A full count and he swings at a fast ball way outside and that ends the threat.

So it's eight played, with Baylor leading 2-1.

  21. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Ridgeway back out again, as Baylor has done nothing against him, in the ninth.

The Bears lead with Arrington, batting lefty.
A knuckling liner to short and Baker almost jumped too soon, but did make the grab, one away.

Bissonette bats righty, with an out.
This time a grounder to short goes 4-3, two quick outs.

Cunningham bats lefty, with two gone.
A liner to right and the side down in order again.

Ridgeway was masterful, but Texas will need a run most likely off the Baylor closer, as they trail 2-1, bottom of the ninth coming.

  22. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

As expected the Baylor closer is Troy Montemayor, on to pitch the ninth, after eight good innings by starter, Tolson.

Texas will bring up Mathis to face him, batting lefty.
He is hitless on the night.
A shallow fly ball to right center will keep him that way, one down.

Righty hitter is Gurwitz, batting righty,
He is also hitless in the game, at 0-3.
A grounder to second goes 4-3, two away.

Kacy Clemens bats lefty, trying to keep the game alive, with two outs.
He K's swinging, on the curve ball, the side down and the game over.

Baylor wins the first game of the series 2-1, back in a bit.

Two teams that have struggled all year to score runs, kept up that trend, the Bears are two runs better than last place Texas in scoring, among all Big 12 teams.

Baylor scores two unearned runs, on Cooper's error, in the fifth. Texas scratched out a run after 13 scoreless frames, in the sixth, on a Barrera single, with two outs. He had another opportunity in the same situation, but couldn't do it twice, that was about all the chances the Horns had to score.

Ridgeway retired all nine batters he faced, in relief. Then the league leader in saves, in Montemayor, comes in the ninth. He retires the side in order, for his thirteen save of the year. The starter Tolson, gave up the lone run in eight innings of work.

It was just a microcosm of the last several years, for Texas. Bayor is now tied with Texas at 9-13, in conference play. Kansas had their game rained out tonight, so Texas hasn't yet clinched a berth in the Big 12 Tounrament.

Texas falls to 21-29, in a season that just keeps getting worse, it's really a bad time for Texas baseball, I don't think anybody can argue with that. :hookem:

The best Texas can finish now is sixth in the conference, they could tie OU, for fifth, but OU has the tiebreaker in head to head play.

TCU did beat KSU tonight, so one more loss by them or Kansas gives Texas a birth in the tournament.

Hard to believe only 3 weeks ago we were 20-21, fresh off a series win over conference leading Texas Tech, and facing OSU to claim 2nd place in conference.

After winning 6 of the previous 7 and a turn-around ripe for the taking, we folded like a cheap tent and lost 8 of our last 9 games.

Another unfortunate record is now in play. Assuming 2 tourney losses, we must win one of the last two Baylor games to avoid the most losses (33) in UT baseball history.

    1998: 23-32-1
    2016: 21-29 and counting

This is the level that the Texas Baseball program has reached. Rememering the good times, back when we were a lofty 20-21.

The Big 12 is weak this year.

Tech is pretty good, but not overpowering by any means. If they can get a top eight seed, they could contend for the CWS.

TCU has not been the same since Luken Baker had to be removed from the pitching staff, due to an arm injury. They are now battling to host a regional.

OSU just isn't that strong and has nearly fallen out of the rankings, they probably won't be hosting a regional, unless they win the Big 12 Tourney, maybe not even then.

WVU has an outside chance to get a regional at large bid, at best.

Every other Big 12 team is not any good and just hopes to win the Big 12 Tourney.

So true. Nothing is more telling than the 6-5 record on freakin' Tuesdays.

And then there's finishing near the bottom of the worst conference field in recent memory.

The road was much easier than normal and we may spit out the most losses ever.

If Augie needed 20 wins to become the winningest coach in history, that might be something to consider.

But already owning the wins record and putting up this shameful of a season, more time to chase an arbitrary wins mark that will be bested in the near future is wrong.

I already received one text last night from a friend saying if they don't fire him he's cancelling his longheld season tix.

Can't say I blame him since the athletics dept has been doing nothing but giving football and baseball season tix holders the finger the last few years.
