Trent Reznor plays instruments. Doesn't a front man have to be just a singer?

So much of this depends upon how you define a front man. There are Bands (the Stones, Zep, U2, Queen, etc.), and then there are Artists with Kick *** Bands (Springsteen & the E Street Band, Dylan & the Hawks, Petty & the Heartbreakers, etc).

For my money the guys who best controlled everything on the stage & commanded your attention for every second of the show are:

    Springsteen
    The Glimmer Twins
    Prince
    Mercury
    Bono

Perfect front man pulls lots of ***, and not the male variety. Freddy Mercury is disqualified.

Instead give me guys like David Lee Roth, Jim Morrison, Robert Plant, Vince Neil, Bon Jovi, Mick Jagger, Roger Daltry, etc.

    Robert Plant. Period.

Throw in James Hetfield for honorable mention. [IMG]

    1) Mick Jagger
    2) Jim Morrison
    3) Springsteen
    4) Bono (equal with Springsteen IMO)
    5) David Lee Roth

Dylan as great as he is, doesn't fit into the genre as I see it, as you don't come out pumped up after seeing them play which is how you feel physically after seeing all of the above perform. Probalby have Jim Morrison overrated because of his early demise.

They may not have been part of any mega-legendary bands like Zepplin or The Who or U2 or whatever, but none the less three of the most entertaining front men ever
