I don't know much about TVs... but I do know my old 27" CRT is on its last legs... So... I'm in the market for a <$1000 TV. I want either a 32, 37, or 40 inch TV. I'm willing to sacrifice size for quality. 1080p is a must. I'm thinking 120Hz would be nice as well. I've seen several new Samsung and Sony models that fit the description (LN32B640 and KDL32XBR9). Anywho... I know some of y'all are big TV guys.... I'm curious what y'all would recommend sub-1k?
You will not be able to tell the difference between a 720p & 1080p with the size of display you are looking to buy. I would only buy a 1080p for a display 50" or larger. Will you be connecting this display to a blu-ray player?
Check out the Panasonic Viera 42" Plasma line. There are several choices under $900 delivered from B&H Photo or elsewhere. A recent Consumer Reports test report indicated that you'd have to pay close to $1500 IIRC to get anything better. We have one that we got from B&H and couldn't be happier with it for the price.
42" Panasonic 720p plasma - $648 at Sam's Club or $699 just about any place else. 1080p in those size sets & smaller would be overkill. If you insist on a 1080p, then the Vizio 42" LCD is a good buy: The Link
Look at today's Fry's newspaper ad - there are several 40" - 42" LCD 1080p Sony & Samsung sets for under $1,000. All good buys (and better than the Vizio).
I'd go with Sony. Love mine. I have a 52xbr5, a 32xbr6 and bought a 40W4100 for my mother last Christmas. Hornfans' hlaustin got me a good deal on the 40W. I bought the 32xbr6 fromThe Link
If you are after better color accuracy, look at one of the panasonic 42" units. If you are after sharpness and more of a 3d look then I would look at either the sony 40v5100 or the samsung 40b650, the samsung will have more glare and less of a viewing angle, the sony will have much better audio. I like the motion better on the sony. We sell both of those units for 997.00.
