Anyone have a gut feel as to how our Big 12 teams are going to do this year? I mean in terms of....Kansas worse than last year? OSU better than last year? etc.... I haven't watched any of their games or tracked their transfers in/out well in my head, so I don't know.......although I do remember AJ Alix transferred out of TCU (yay) and into FSU (boo)
Spectrum showing the OU-South Dakota State game on at ESPN College 3 (ESPNCE3) channel 394. Hopefully, I get that channel so I can watch both Tenn on ESPN3 and the OU game.
South Dakota State defeats OU, 67-61. OU got good, open looks but could not get a basket to save their lives. Defense got them back into the game in the second half after they got down by 17, but after a brief scoring run to cut it to four, OU revered back to having trouble scoring. They could never grab the lead in the second half. If they can't convert open looks, they are going to have a lot of trouble in the Big 12. If they do start making the majority of those open looks, they will give teams a lot of trouble. They were able to penetrate and get good looks. Can't say they ever gave up, though. They played hard to the end, even though the results did not show a win.
From the fans' point of view, at least, Coach Coale is on the hot seat with the way the team is not winning.
OU didn't have Pierre-Louis tonight. She could've made a huge difference, IMO. Neither team had an inside presence, and she could've changed the game for OU. For some reason, she always gives Texas a hard time in the paint.
Speaking of hot seats...Whitaker at TTU has to be on the hottest one. I'll be surprised if she makes it to the end of this season. TTU lost to New Mexico by 34 points.
Bad night for the Big 12. Even KSU had to work hard to beat UT Arlington at home. Iowa 61/Iowa State 55 TCU 58/Texas A&M 71 Nebraska 66/KU 49 UT Arlington 56/KSU 70 OU 61/South Dakota State 67 Texas Tech 56 /New Mexico 90
Looks like it's going to be a down year for the Big 12. There may be a couple of upsets, but other than Texas, Baylor and West Virginia, the conference doesn't look good.
OU fans, at least the ones posting, seem very unhappy with the direction of the program. Wonder why ViVi did not play and how long she will be out. Nothing official about an injury. League play is coming up and her absence would create a void inside for the Sooners, especially if they continue to struggle with outside shooting. I wonder who this EJ the OU fans keep referring to is. I have gone over the roster and there is no one there with those initials in their names, not in their first, last or any combination I can come up with. The closest I can come up with is Ijeoma Odimgbe, a 6-4 Jr. F, as they are referring to a post player who is not getting enough time, in their opinion.
Tynice Martin did not play against Pitt as she is still recovering from her foot injury. Not sure when she is going to return. Wonder if she will miss the match up with Texas on December 31st? They are proving to be a formidable opponent without her.
West Virginia is perplexing. They looked terrible in the Horns game with them in WV (blow-out). Then played well in a their loss to the Horns in Austin. Then beat us and Baylor in the B12 tourney. As I remember it, disappointed in the NCAA tournament somewhat. Muldrow has been carrying them with Martin out. They had several players transfer after the end of last season. They are short-handed on the bench so if Martin is delayed or ?? they could get tired before the end of the year.
But is their coach still a screaming-at-his-team maniac? With that question, I hear the players love(?) him and haven't seen too many transfers out.
I keep forgetting that Martin is still out, they are doing so well. Looks like they will have a similar problem to us integrating a starter back into the rotation. But Joyner will be available for the Dec. 31 matchup.
Regarding WV depth, they have only been playing five players. Last game the five averaged 36.8 minutes each. They played 2 other players(one a freshman) a total of 16 minutes. That has been the norm this season since Martin got hurt. So they really need Martin back before they get another player hurt or worn out. They do have the cavalry coming at mid-term...........a 6'-6" post transfer from Ohio State. Looks like they will be there at the end.
