The stats back it up despite all of the rhetoric about the almighty sec. Good read from the Football Brainiacs. The sec is like Snow White (Alabama) and the seven dwarfs (gimme poetic license here on the number of sec members) TFB Talking Point | Big 12 Perception Problem - The Football Brainiacs - UT Edition
Multiple points in that article could be its own article. B12 D better than sec D. B12 better than sec Bama>B12>rest of sec
The dominance of Alabama over the last decade really alters this debate in so many ways. I will admit that the SEC has been the best conference in football for last 15 years but takeaway Alabama and the argument over best conference in football is so much closer than the SEC homers would like it to be. Alabama is just so dominant that it changes the whole conversation and so colors the argument about strengths of conference as to make the debate sometimes pretty mindless.
Also, how is it possible for one team to be so dominant over a really really good conference? If the SEC was as tough as they want to think it is, no one would be able to make it their ***** the way Bama has.
Funny thing is, I would imagine most of the fans of Big 12 schools don't really care about this aside from wanting to shut up the "SEC" chanting vicarious conference bragging stuff. You could tell Sam didn't give a crap about it when asked after the game. I imagine most players, including ones from SEC schools, don't care about it much - because they play games against other teams, not against other conferences.
Stat, all year Sam has been very media savvy. He handled the Kyler handshake deal perfectly with the media back in October. IMO, he did care about beating the SEC runner ups. But he knows better than saying it publicly. Georgia has the number one or two recruiting machine right now ... it matters beating them.
Teams go up and down over the years but win/loss numbers don’t change. UT Vs Bama 7-1-1 Vs Ark 56-21 Vs Auburn 5-3 Vs FL 2-0-1 Vs GA 4-1 Vs LSU 9-7-1 Vs KY 1-0 Vs MS 5-1 Vs MS State 2-2 Vs MO 17-6 Vs SC 0-1 Vs TN 2-1 Vs aggies 76-37-5 Vs Vanderbilt 3-8-1 (all prior to SEC) Up yours SEC.
If Georgia continues to use not having any motivation as an excuse as to why they lost, I would think some of those recruits may back away from signing. I'm sure Kirby was trying to not let that be the narrative so it doesn't influence the recruits that haven't signed yet.
Even more, Texas has alltime scoreboard on 3 others, 1932 sec charter members, Sewanee, Georgia Tech, and Tulane.
You can put me in this category. Its like aggy.. I don't think about aggy (or OU for that matter) except as a reaction to their UT-obsessed antics. I view the SEC "chanter" and his/her message similarly.
It appears that the win/loss record against MO had a mistake. Texas has defeated them 18 times and not 17 times. My apologies to MO.
Oh, I agree, but I don't think he saw himself as earning a win for the Big 12 because of how crucial it was to be able to brag that his group of 10 teams is superior to someone else's group of 12 or 14 teams.
