Brent is giving his pregame speech to the Carnies on the Midway right now and not in the locker room.
Yes indeed. And bc of this, ou is in deep ****. If they don't clean up at the portal this winter , they're toast . For several years. Tough sell in the sec
When you think about it, it's entirely possible. Like Arkansas, mizzou, nebraska, colorado... all left for greener pastures and all became irrelevant. Texas kids may not be so closely associated with ou once in the sec. Like nebraska, ou could be in the same cfb world as the Dakotas soon
I stated that in a previous thread. I think OU is now headed down the path of Nebraska without some major portals into the program and a very strong recruiting class. That team played uninspired and I think Venables is a Charlie Strong HC with less recruiting skills.
How bad does Nebraska have to be to lose to THIS OU squad (albeit with their starting QB) by 35 points?
I think there are significant differences between the Husker slide and causes and ou's so far one year problems. Time will tell
Nebraska is down because they lost the "county" scholarships and the gray shirt rules changed. Then they left for the Big Ten effectively cutting their Texas recruiting pipeline. ou's recruiting on the other hand, is as strong as ever in North Texas. They survived the Gibbs and Blake years and due to NIL and the portal will come back strong again once they hire a real HC.
I tend to believe that this is more of a temporary downward trend for OU, and not a portent of Nebraska-like ineptitude. With that said, I really wouldn't hate it too much if the downward trend lasted a decade or more, like ours has.
Sangre I agree. I want to offer this opinion. In the past elite programs could survive several years decline and with the right combo of coaches and recruits could climb back. I think Texas and Michigan may be the last to come back that way. With NIL, the portal ,social media and 24/7 scrutiny the landscape has gotten even more difficult. Oddly enough Aggy may be a good study case.
I'm not sure of your point. The right combo of coaches and recruits will always be the formula for building a winning program. I'm not seeing how NIL and the portal make this formula any different, or more difficult to achieve for the bluebloods. I can see how this may further stratify the FBS programs into haves and have-nots, with the haves being perpetually more likely to win a championship, but I think there will still be rise and decline among the programs in the "have" category, based on coaches and the specific recruits they reel in. If I missed your point please elaborate. I think the re-imagining of the college football landscape is a subject worth pondering here.
I thought you said real HIC. Sangre did say I was better than Venables, but I will stick with airline piloting.
Sangre Well for one the NIL allowed aggy a top recruiting class where every recruit got paid. That certainly changes the landscape. We don't know if aggy can do it again in 23. Can they do it again And continue to pay the 22 recruits their NILs? We don't know how many programs will use NILs to sign an entire class of recruits. The portal can draw players to programs who can offer more attractive NILs. I just think recruiting and retention have changed.
Visit a Sooner board....shudder...and you will quickly find he hates the English language, too. Uuuuuhhhhh.....eeeeerrr....uuummmmmm....hhhuuuuuuhhhhh....eeerrrrrrr
I know there is a lot of joking around on this thread about BV, but there no base to the joke about him putting mayo on his hotdogs, right? Or maybe I should ask if it’s really so bad. I like mayo on my hot dogs!! Mayo, ketchup and jalapeños is the way to go! Frankly… mayo is pretty great on everything.
