A high of 6 on Sunday? Are you kidding me? Vegas should start an over/under line on frostbite cases during the game.
Honestly, I think the Giants can handle the cold. I'm more concerned about how the Chargers are going to do in this. I still have nightmares about that 1981 AFC championship game where Dan Fouts and Air Coryell nearly froze to death in Cincinnati.
1) THAT is why I do not live up north anymore. 1a) THAT is one of the many reasons Brett Favre & Co. will mightily prevail on Sunday. GO PACK GO
Raul told me that when he saw the skit the night before the super bowl, he laughed his *** off, and it ended up taking the pressure off for him. But he said he got it all back when he raised his hand and the crowd went nuts before he kicked off to open the game. If I am not mistaken, I beleive Raul was the first Longhorn to score points in the super bowl.
I have always wanted to play football in that weather. The closest I ever got was like 45 degrees... Damn you South Texas! Go Pack! Now that the Boys are out, you have to go with Favre.
What was the temperature of the famous Ice Bowl game? That was brutal, frozen tundra indeed. This game will be fun to watch, from my living room, that is.
Found the answer in the other post about the Ice Bowl-started out a balmy -14, ended up at -20. Wind chill of -46. What a game.
I did a piece once about the Ice Bowl, and I included a quote from Bob Lily saying that after the first play of the game, the ref blew the whistle, then pulled off a piece of his lip when he took the whistle out. Then, the ref worked the rest of the game with a blood icicle hagning from his face. Great stuff.
I heard that after that, the refs just screamed/yelled plays dead so none of them would have to touch their mouth to their whistle.
Football in the snow is fun. I grew up in Wisconsin, so it just seemed like that was the way it was meant to be played. But a high of 6? That is just f'in brutal.
hits hurt about 2-3x hard in that kind of cold. It's going to be a cold weekend too here in Chicago ... brrr
Here's an ESPN article about the Ice Bowl. Ice Bowl "-- minus-13 degrees at noon and still the coldest Dec. 31 in Green Bay history. Fierce north gusts sent the wind chill sinking to minus-30 degrees. Four fans suffered heart attacks at the stadium. Fourteen made it on their own to the hospital for treatment for exposure. A crisis of near-equal proportions visited the open-air TV booth where whiskey-laced coffee froze. Announcer Frank Gifford opened his commentary by saying, "I just took a bite out of my coffee."
I was gonna post a picture of an attractive Packer cheerleader followed by some witty (albeit lewd) comment about keeping warm, but apparently Green Bay hasn't had official cheerleaders since 1988.... So instead, I leave you with the best in the world:
