according to the thread on SicEm365, the Baylor forum. Tough break for her as it likely will cause her to miss not just the rest of the season but likely the chance to make the WNBA this summer. Wishing her a fast and full recovery.
here's the link: https://www.ajc.com/sports/college/...uffers-torn-right-acl/9ODyEF36RtZzXVH5cd2uBL/ Interesting comment from Mulkey about Wallace possibly coming back to play this season. Don't think I have ever seen or heard of that happening before:
According to this interpretation of today's press conference (Thursday), she will miss the post-season. https://sicem365.com/s/2388/baylor-senior-guard-kristy-wallace-tears-acl-out-for-postseason/4
That is a drag all around. For her and her team, obviously. And, if both teams get that far, I wanted to take them own again at full strength. (Of course, we're not at full strength either, with A-A out.) But I have a feeling Morris and Landrum will come up big. Though she is a great player, it's possible they may not miss her all that much.
I came here post the same ridiculous comment about Wallace strapping on a brace and being ready for the Big 12 tourney or the NCAA. Unless she's a robot, that's not happening. Torn ACLs require almost year of recovery -- and even then, many players have to learn to trust their ability on a recovered knee. She's a basketball COACH. Just bizarrre comments.
I can understand the surgery not happening right away as swelling needs to go down before they can do the surgery. But I really don't think either Mulkey or Wallace will risk further structural damage to the rest of Wallace's knee (ligaments, etc) that could compromise her ability to play basketball in the future for a few games this season. It's very likely that Wallace will play professionally and be a strong contender for her country's Olympic team once she recovers from this injury. That second report stating that Wallace is out for the season is much more realistic, imo.
There is no way her confidence in the remainder of her guards can be that low as to where she would risk playing Wallace. She would literally have no lateral movement and every team the face would attack her and that knee both on offense and defense.
No one likes injuries. From a basketball perspective, that's why you have depth on your roster. At the end of last season, Baylor lost around 4 seniors, 3-4 defections/transfers, and only brought in 3 freshmen. So, that all resulted in a 10 player roster. They lose Trinity Oliver to an injury, and then Chou sustains an injury which has kept her out for several games; and, now Wallace. So, at the moment, they have 7 players who are 100% healthy. I am glad that women's hoops is allowed 15 scholarship players; but, if a coach elects not to use them, that's their choice. You can't predict injuries, but you are able to build your roster to account for possible injuries.
