Connor Mayes, the righ hander starts for Texas and retired Cal without damage in the first.

The Cal pitcher is left hander Matt Ladrech.

Travis Jones will assume the leadoff and play left field.
He grounds to the hole on the left side and shortstop can't make the play in time, a lead infield hit.

Boswell playing short, bunts him up on a 1-3 sac.

Baker lined to short and into a 6U-4 double play to end the innning.

    One played and 0-0.

The left fielder is Nick Halamandaris, batting righty, with one on.
He ground to second for a 4-6-3 double play and two outs.

Brian Celsi plays right field and bats lefty, two away.
He lines one to the gap in left center, to the fence, a stand up double.

Bottom of two and no runs yet.

Ladrech will return for the Texas second.

Leading off for Texas is Tres Barrera, batting righty, the Horn DH.
He lines one to the gap in right center, the right fielder barehands it and throws to second late, as Tres slides in safely with a lead double.

Kacy Clemens bats lefty and plays first, with one on.
He tries to bunt, but can't get it down.
Then a comebacker will hold the runner, the 1-3 is one away.

The Texas catcher today is Michael Cantu, with one on and one out.
He has struggled and with Barrera still at second, it takes a hit to give the Horns there first run and lead in the series.
A ground ball goes through on the left side and Barrera scores on the single.

    Texas leads 1-0.

Third baseman Kody Clemens bats lefty, with one on, one in, and one out.
A ground ball to first and it goes 3-6-3 for a inning ending double play, the second for Cal today.

Texas breaks on top for the first time this series, they lead 1-0 after two.

Mayes back for the third, becomes the first Horn pitcher to work with a lead in the series.

Cal leads off with righty hitting shortstop, Preston Grand Pre, in the nine hole.
He K's looking on a big hook, that caught the outside corner, for one away.

Aaron Knapp, the lefty hitting leadoff man bats with one down.
A cue shot down the right field foul line and Mayes barehands it and throws and just gets Knapp, who can really run, for out two, nice play. He looked safe on the replay.

Third baseman Mitchell Kranson bats lefty, with two gone.
He lines a high fast ball to center, for a single, Cal doesn't miss too many of those type pitches.

Devin Pearson bats righty, as the Cal DH, with one on and two down.
A full count is reached and the runner is off.
A fly ball to right will retire the side.

To the bottom of three and Texas leads 1-0.

Ladrech pitches the third for the Bears.

Leading off for Texas is Jake McKenzie, playing in right field.
A high pop to center is an easy first out.

Zane Gurwitz bats righty, having moved to the nine hole in this game.
He bats righty and plays centerfield, with one gone.
A ground ball to first is a quick second out on the 3U.

Top of the order is Travis Jones, batting righty, two down.
He had an infield single his first trip.
A fly ball to center and that retires the side in order.

Three played now and Texas leads 1-0.

Mayes comes back for the Cal fourth frame.

He faces the Cal first baseman Brenden Farney, batting lefty, leading off.
A ground ball to second goes 4-3, one down.

Cumberland bats lefty, with one away.
He has been a terror for Cal, with six hits so far, in eleven official at bats.
Make it seven, as he lines a high fast ball to center, for a single.

Lefty hitting Halamandaris, bats with one on and one down.
He walks to put two on.

Celsi bats lefty, with two on and one gone.
A liner to right is right to McKenzie, in right field, two down.

Tenerowicz, will bat right handed with two on and two outs.
A fast ball on the outside corner is a called strike three, the K ends the inning.

Mayes pitches out of trouble, so Texas hangs on to a 1-0 lead, bottom of the fourth.

Ladrech is back on the bump for Cal for the Horn fourth.

Bret Boswell, the shortstop, bats lefty to lead off.
He bunts and it's a good one, the pitcher fields and throws late, a lead infield hit.

Baker bats righty, with one on.
Baker squares and lays it down, the 1-3 sac, is one down, as the runner moves up.

Barrera bats righty, with one on and one down.
He doubled his has at bat.
He takes a pitch off the left knee, the HPB means two on.

Lefty hitter Kacy Clemens, bats with two on and one out.
A ground ball to the left of the second baseman, he has only one play to first and the 4-3 is two gone, as the runners move up.

Cantu bats righty, with two on and two gone.
He is responsible for the only run of game, with an rbi single his last at bat.
They pitch around and give the unintential intential walk to load the bases and work on a lefty hitter.

Kody Clemens is that lefty hitter, the bases loaded and the bases full.
Big at bat in the game, Texas looking for some breathing room.
A ground ball up the middle, the second baseman fields it, but flips the ball from his glove late, an infield hit, to score a run.

    Texas leads 2-0.

Coach is out and a pitching change comes.

  10. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

The new Cal hurler is freshman Aaron Shortridge, his first apperance in the series.

He faces Brady Harlan, who will pinch hit for McKenzie, to get a lefty bat up.
He has the bases loaded and two outs.
Another big at bat, trying to extend the lead.
He K's swinging, on the change to retire the side

The Horns scratch out another run on two infield hits, a walk, and a HBP. They lead now 2-0, after four gone.

Mayes will remain for the fifth, as he attempt to become the pitcher of record, for a possible win. Harlan stays in to play right field.

Cal leads off with the bottom of the order in righty hitter Grand Pre.
A shallow fly ball to left is one down.

Knapp bats lefty, at the top of the order, one gone.
The count is worked full and another fly ball to left is two outs.

Lefty hitting Kranson bats with two gone.
A big hook is swung on and missed and the side is down in order.

Mayes on line for the win, if Texas can maintain thier 2-0 lead halfway through the series finale.

Hate to depend on the pitching staff to throw a shutout in order to win. This team has got to find a way to score runs in bunches - there will be days when you have to score 7 or 8 to win.

  14. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Shortridge stays in to pitch the Horn fifth.

Gurwitz batting ninth today, leads off for Texas, batting righty.
A ground ball to short and the throw is a bit low and wide and not caught by the first baseman, the E-3 puts him on.

Jones bats righty, with one on.
He lays down the bunt and the 1-3 sac is good, runner to second.

Lefty hitter Boswell bats with a man on and one down.
The count runs full and drives a liner over the right fielder's head, that short hops the wall, it's a triple and scores another run.

    Texas leads 3-0.

Baker bats righty with a man on third, one down.
The bunt is always a possibility here, the infield is in though.
Need some contact here and get this run home, for more insurance against a good hitting Cal squad.
Another full count and he swings at a curve way outside and low, the K is two gone.

It's up to Barrera, batting righty, two down and a man on third.
He walks to put runners on the corners.

Kacy Clemens bats lefty, with two on and two away.
A hanging curve and the new Clemens wearing glasses now, sees it with all four eyes, crushed to right field and it nealy hit a bus on Comal street. The long moon shot homer brings home three more.

    Texas leads 6-0.

Cantu bats righty with two outs, four in.
A liner to right is the third out, it retires the side.

Hopefully Cal has run out of pitching, as Texas adds four big runs. The Clemens shot the highlight. Texas moves out to a nice 6-0 lead, after five.

Mayes with what must seem like abundance of riches, pitches the sixth with a big lead.

The righty hitting DH is Pearson, leading off for the Bears.
The count is full and a very close pitch is called ball four, a lead runner.

Farney bats lefty, with a man on.
Another full count and he walks, to put two on, Mayes has thrown a lot of pitches, many deep counts.

Skip out for a talk and to get the bullpen up and warming.
    He returns to the dugout.

The dangerous lefty hitter Cumberland, bats with two on.
He lines to second and Baker caught it and then drops it then the 4-6-3 is a double play and a throw to third is wide or it could have been a triple play.
There is confusion, but that is how it stays.

So after all that, Halamandaris bats lefty, with a man on third, two outs.
A fast ball on the inside corner and it's a called strike three, the side down.

Again Mayes pitches his way out of trouble, but he's over 100 pitches now and that could be all for him, another great outing for a UT starting pitcher.

Texas leads 6-0, to the bottom of the sixth.

Cal brings in another pitcher right hander Joey Matulovich.

Kody Clemens is his first hitter to face, batting lefty, leading off for the Horns.
He K's swinging on a fast ball, one away.

Harlan bats lefty now with one gone.
He lines a ball just out of the reach of a diving shortstop to left, a single.
He is starting to hit some.

Bottom of the order in Gurwitz, batting righty, one on and one down.
A fisted shallow pop to center and it's two outs.

Jones bats at the top of the order in his new role, from the right side.
He swings with two outs and one on.
A drive to right is caught by a retreating right fielder, that will end the frame.

Six have been played and Texas has 6 to Cal's 0.

Mayes is done for the day and Nick Kennedy, who when not playing outfield also pitches. The left hander will look to keep Cal at bay in the seventh.

Celsi bats lefty, as most Cal hitters do, leading off.
A little grounder back to Kennedy and it clanks off his glove, he tries to pick up a couple of times, finally does and just gets him at first, on the 1-3.

A pinch hitter is Karas batting righty with one down.
He ground to short and the 6-3 is two gone quickly.

Another pinch hitter is Jeffery Mitchell, batting right handed, two gone.
He walks to put a man on.

Knapp bats lefty, the top of the order, one on and two outs.
He blows a high hard one by him, with some real jump on it, the swinging K will retire the side.

They stretch at the Disch, with a good feeling finally, as Texas leads 6-0.

  18. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Mataulovich will stay on and pitch the Horn seventh frame.
Ripkin Reyes comes in to play short.

Texas leads off with lefty hitter Boswell, who had a triple in the big four run inning/ that may very well earn Texas a W today.
This time he lines one the other way and it plugs the left center gap, to the wall, a double.

Baker bats righty, with a man on second.
He works the count full and a grounder to second and the 4-3 will move Boswell to third, one away.

Barrera bats righty, with one out and a man on third.
A fly ball to right and it's deep enough for the SF.

    Texas leads 7-0.

Kacy Clemens bats lefty with two gone.
His three run bomb really broke things open earlier in the game.
This time a fly ball to right will be caught to retire the side.

Seven in the books and Texas cruising today 7-0.

Kennedy will pitch the eighth and try preserve the shutout.

Leading off for Cal is Kranson, batting lefty.
A flair to left and it drops just fair and just beyond a diving Jones, a lead double is the result.

DH is Pearson batting righty, with one on.
A liner to center and the single puts runners on the corners, almost hit Kennedy in the noggin.

Farney bats lefty, with two on.
He K's swinging on a 12 to 6 overhand curve, for one gone.

Cumberland bats righty for the first time, the switch hitter, has runners on the corners and one down.
This guy can really rake, even his outs have been mainly hit hard.
A pitch in the dirt and the runner goes to second on the wild pitch.
The count runs full and he walks to load the bases.

Halamandaris bats lefty, the bases loaded and one out.
A high pop to left and it's two down, not deep enough for the SF.

Celsi bats lefty, with the bases still full and two outs.
He lines a fast ball to center for a single and two runs score.
He was fooling lefty hitters with his curve.

    Texas leads 7-2.

Skip out and a pitching change.

  20. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

The freshman closer in Chase Shugart, gets his first action of the series, the right hander has looked good so far this year.

He faces new shortstop for Cal in Ripken Reyes, batting lefty.
He bats with two on and two down.
A fly ball to left and that ends the inning.

Cal gets on the board, they are hard to hold scoreless, but Texas leads 7-2, bottom of the eighth.

  21. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Matulovich still on the hill for Cal, in the Horn eighth.

Leading off for Texas is righty hitting Cantu.
A ground ball to third is a 5-3 out one.

Kody Clemens bats lefty, one gone.
Clemens is a quick second out on a grounder to first, that goes 3U.

    Harlan bats lefty, two down.
A full count reached and he reaches on a low breaking pitch, for a walk.

Gurwitz will bat righty, in the nine slot, two away and one on.
A foul ball off the home plate ump, has him down to a knee.
Trainer out and he looks like he will continue.
    Gurwitz back in the box.
A slow roller to second and the charging second baseman has it and the throw nips him at first.

The ninth comes and Texas in command 7-2.

Shugart looks to stay sharp and close the game out, in a non-save situation.

The botom of the order is due and a pinch hitter will lead off for Cal.
He is righty hitter Sean Peters.
A slow grounder to third and Clemens fields and throws, but Peters beats it, for an infield single, a lead runner.

Knapp, the leadoff hitter, bats lefty, with one on,
He grounds a single through the box, to put two aboard.

Lefty hitter Kranson bats, with two on.
A long drive to left and Jones has some problems with it but makes the catch, one away.

Pearson bats righty with one out and two on.
A humpback liner off the end of the metal bat, is caught by Boswell, for two down.

Farney bats lefty with two outs and two on.
The count runs full and a foul off of Cantu has him down.
It went off his left arm, but he is ok.
Farney back in and he lines a single to right, for a run.

    Texas leads 7-3.

Cumberland a tough out, as we have mentioned, bats lefty, with two on and two outs.
A 2-0 count has Skip out of the dugout.
He has a quick word and heads back.
    Cumberland back in the box.
A pinch comes in and he is Davis.
He walks to load the bases.

Halamandaris bats lefty, the bases loaded, two gone.
Another pinch runner is Tyrus Green, for Cumberland.
A liner to right again and the single on the high fast ball plates two more.

    Texas leads 7-5.

Another pinch runner is star pitcher Daulton Jefferies to first.

Celsi bats lefty, with runners on the corners, two down.
He grounds a ball in the hole on the right side, Baker knocks it down, but no play, another run scores.

    Texas leads 7-6.

Reyes bats lefty, with two on and still two gone.
    Tying run at second.
A full count and the runners go and a grounder in the hole on the left side, Boswell has it and his throw is a bit wide and Clemens can't hold it, the runner comes around, the throw is late at the plate.
It's an E-3 to tie the game.

    Game tied 7-7.

Peters will bat righty again, as Cal bats around, with two on and still two outs.
He takes a curve ball, for a called third strike, to finally end the inning.

Cal ties it on a bunch of hits and the game tying error. Hard to believe, but extra innings may be coming tied at 7-7, bottom of the ninth.

Tanner Dodson will make his second apperance of the series, a right handed pitcher.
Multiple changes for Cal in the field, after all the pinch runners.

He K's swinging, at a pitch in the dirt, the 2-3 put out is one down.

Boswell bats lefty, with one down.
A fly ball to left is the second out.

Baker bats righty, with two gone.
He walks to put the winning run on, he has good wheels.

Barrera bats righty, with two down.
He has good power and an extra base hit could win it.
A ground ball in the hole on the left side, the shortstop backhands and throws low, but picked by the first baseman and the 6-3 ends the inning.

We do go to those unexpected extra innings tied 7-7.
