Can Texans and Oklahomans ask for reparations from CA also? the problem is that even if they water down the price to levels that wouldn't drown the state, they are setting a precedent. One that many other blue cities will follow. They will all set up municipal boards and mimic this outcome and then try to squeeze reparations language into every ordinance going forward. We can't just attack this on a financial "too expensive" level. We have to find a way to undermine the whole premise of people claiming reparations 3-4 generations removed and in many cases, very artificially connected to them personally. I think we should get some italians to ask for reparations in Boston and Irish to ask for reparations in NY, and Chinese or Japanese to ask for reparations from SF. Only then will the absurdity of this reparations nonsense be seen for what it is.
I agree. One of the biggest problems is the commies are moving here when their bizs move.They are people making money and paying taxes. Hard to figure out a way to make socialist ideology against the law
I think the answer lies within the history of state and colony church establishment laws in America. Add to that Reformation political ideology and how they viewed the church/state issue. Then apply those same principles to beliefs that are dangerous to civilization. I view Communism, any version of it from Marx to Kendi, as anti-human, anti-civilization, and anti-justice. As such they should be considered illegal in the public sphere while giving individuals the freedom of conscience to believe what they want.
Cost certainly isn't the only reason to oppose it. Obviously it sets a terrible precedent that other crackpot cities and states would follow, and it would make victimology into an even bigger racket than it already is. And though I'm for people being able to sue the government for damages and for the government paying damages, I do expect that to only happen as compensation for some wrongful act by the government. To my knowledge, the government didn't own slaves. However, the cost is what would stop most blue areas from doing it. They feel very righteous advocating it, but they're not going to pay for it. And even if the payouts got much smaller, it's far too broad not to add up to a ridiculous sum.

Maybe I misunderstood your point. California asked for the reparations committee so of course they aren't going to fight it. That lead me to answer "no" to "will that stop any effort to force states to pay?"

If CA passes reparations they won't be able to pay for it. Then they will call the Fed to print the money to give to them. What happens in CA today happens all over the US in the next 5 years.
I blame the feds for a lot, but nobody is forcing or even encouraging states to do this. This is a state choosing (or pretending to choose) idiocy and self-destruction on its own. It's an attempted suicide, not a murder.
CA isn't going to pass reparations - certainly not in any meaningful sense. They will drag this along until Gavin Newsom stops being interested in a presidential run, because this is only a cheap ploy to get black Democratic primary voters to support the whitest politician in the country. When that ends as an issue, this will go the way of 40 acres and a mule.

You really think so? I don't think it is good strategy to assume your enemies won't do terrible and horrible things. Better to assume they are going to do it and find a way to stop them. But I hope you are right.
There are enough terrible things that they actually are doing to occupy our time. I'd still rip it up and down and criticize it, but do I fear it actually getting passed? No. And even if it passed, they'd never fund it. They'd more likely build the Death Star.

Evanston is along the north shore of Lake Michigan, north of downtown, home to Northwestern U. A typical Chicago "suburb" liberal haven. I live southwest of downtown about 20 miles. Much different out there. To call Evanston a suburb is technically correct, but that's about it.

Slavery reparations office commits racial discrimination. How nice. Again, this should result in a lawsuit. Imagine a business saying, "we don't hire blacks because most of our customers are white, and blacks don't understand white people's lives experiences." Would that fly in court? Nope-on-a-rope.
