So the worst cars of all time post got me thinking... What are some modern cars that could end up being the new classic cars in 2 decades or so? Mitsubishi 3000GT?? Nissan 300ZX?? Dodge Viper??
I don't know enough about the foreign cars, but here's a few domestic cars that come to mind Buick Grand National Pontiac T/A turbo GMC Syclone/Typhoon ZR1 corvette 94-96 Impala SS various low productionMustangs... Saleen, cobra etc Mustang LX model w/ 5.0 GM f-bodies, firehawk/Camaro SS thunderbird supercoupe mid 80's chrylers, like the Omni GLHS and Turbo Daytona Pontiac Aztec
Honda CRX. I bought a used on in '95 and adored it. It was a sad day when I had to get rid of it, but the wife couldn't drive stick and a two-seater just didn't make sense anymore.
Plymouth Prowler Mini Cooper Dodge Viper's a good one. You don't see many. How many do they make a year? GMC Syclone may not be a classic, but definitely a collector. The thing is, few cars are made to look unique or "beautiful" anymore. That's kind of what makes a classic car a classic. You've got rare collector cars these days like a Saleen Mustang, but with the hood down, it doesn't look much different than an ordinary mustang.
NSX is already very desired as a collector car. I cannot understand why Acura took that off the market.
Viper for sure Some of the late 90's Toyota Supras may achieve collector status, they still have exceptionally hig values I think some of the Toyota F series SUV's might do it Original Hummers for sure Possibly even some of the latest Mustangs that look like the old body style, but probably a longer shot there
When people are all driving around in some tiny fuel efficient enviro car the monster SUV will be very cool.

I don't necessarily get it, but don't certain Subaru's (WRX I believe) and Mitsubishi Lancers have big followings? A doctor I used to work with who had just dropped about 80K on an M5 said he would have bought a WRX... if he didn't have the money for the BMW. Smaller cars with turbos seem to have a place in the imagination. I know another guy with a huge one for a VW GTI.
Classic cars, like classic music, already had their time. The ones still around are all that is left. Continue on.
Probably the new beetle, even though it is just piggybacking on the classicness of the original beetle.
