When we take apart our christmas tree we have a problem seperating the sections. We used liquid soap this past year. What else might work?

Liquid soap could dry and make it stick. Try paraffin.

What is it made of? Plastic, metal, wood? There are various "penetrants" for different materials, but it is better to apply something before hand to keep it from sticking in the first place. Next year if it is plastic or wood, get a bar of soap and rub the stems with it before assembling them.
Then they won't be stuck a few weeks later.
If both parts are metal, which they probably aren't, go to a big auto parts place and get a product called "Never Seize."
Try WD-40 to take it apart, might help.

Might be better. Vaseline, light oil (sewing machine or Triflow oil for bicycles), parafin. WD-40 is actually a "dry" lubricant, where the liquid evaporates and a lubricating substance remains, so that would likely work.
