If approved by the BOR, Karen Aston's pay will increase from $559,500 (and incentives) to $775,000 (and possible $162,000 additional in incentives). http://www.hookem.com/2016/09/20/texas-hoops-coach-aston-earns-salary-increase/ Based on results on the court and recruiting trail, Karen deserves it.
I'm glad this is being recognized...although I hoped it would have been higher based on the obvious trajectory of the program.
Agree. Based on data from 2015, this moves Karen from 7th in the Big 12 to 3rd behind Mulkey and Coale at $1M and $1.1M in base salary respectively.
WELL DESERVED but she deserved more IMO. What she has done in these few short years is AMAZING.....and she's just getting started~~~
Glad she's getting a raise as she continues to improve the program in all aspects. I'm sure future raises will come if she is able to elevate the team to conference championships and/or Final Four appearances. Trying to put more fans in the seats still has to be a goal for Aston and Plonsky. Better scheduling (non-conference) will help, hopefully. If attendance does increase substantially, then that is another reason for a future raise.
Agree she has earned every bit of earnings and probably deserves more. However the limiting factor is the unfortunate position that WBB is a "debtor" sport. This puts the WBB coaches in the same category as all other coaches on campus except football and MBB. For those who think the LHN should be done away with (I know some people don't understand the benefit of ESPN's annual payments) need to take a breath and realize that all of the non-football/MBB coaches probably get more due to the LHN that they would normally get.
Here are the numbers published by ESPN: Aston's guaranteed salary was bumped up to $770,000 entering her fifth season, and she's eligible for $220,000 in performance incentives. Her base salary is an increase of $158,187 from last season. The new contract runs through the 2019-20 season.
