Bohls wrote a great article about him today: Former Texas coach Leon Black was a winner — both on, off the court RIP coach
A visionary, great coach who made the most of difficult situations, but above all an outstanding human being. Years ago, when I was a member of Second Baptist Church in Houston and a member of their school board, the school made a decision to start a football program. One of their games was in Austin against Hyde Park Baptist. I insisted that the team go to Austin the day before the game and spend the night. After breakfast Saturday morning, Coach Black hosted a bunch of kids of limited athletic ability and none of whom would ever participate in college athletics on a tour of Memorial Stadium and the Neuhaus Center. Ever gracious and extremely proud of the facilities, Coach Black patiently answered all questions and was the consummate host as if it was his own home, and yet it was. God's speed, Coach, and thanks for all your service on and off the court.
