These are the same people who changed baseball forever
I lived in LA when that show was still on tv. It was so much fun to sit in the audience while it was being taped.
Or in my words, which are worth exactly what you pay for them, "Stay Stupid, They Expect Less Out of You That Way"
Didn't all those computer dork models have OU over Texas in the 2008 season, which helped to keep Texas out of the B12 title game?
From an article entitled - Was 2008 Oklahoma the Greatest Team in B12 History - (what a load of crock)
For Texas fans, the 2008 Sooners were the ultimate land thieves, stealing Texas' Big 12 South crown due to an inflated BCS ranking created via blowout wins where Stoops ran up the score combined with Texas' misfortune to face a schedule that pitted them against four top ranked opponents in four weeks.
And I will add - losing to Tech when Texas was a much better team.
BTW - Why do we have to bring this up?
On to 2021 - #AllGasNoBrakes
Yes, thank you Art Briles.
I remember the final BCS ranking, which is what the B12 title slot was given based on, was the coaches poll, the computer dork poll, and some other goofy old jock/broadcaster/friends and family poll of various college football types and hangers on.
It's my recollection the dork poll really hurt Texas, and that plus various schenagganis in the coaches poll (various coaches ranking Texas in the second 10, even with only that close loss to TT) put OU over the top.
Point of all it was, the dork poll had a team that beat another team, lower than the team they beat.
Didn't Leach rank Texas second 10 as well?
Was that a Catholic Church? If so, I like the priest's new wardrobe.
Gideon will kill it with high school coaches in Texas. I like it!
I love the DC hire. Admit didn't know much about him before reading today but his last name isn't Golding or Lupoi. And that's a good thing!
Briles didn't actually vote Oklahoma over Texas
You know good and well that was straight up Baptist.
The more I hear from him, the more I like him as a head coach and as a person.
If nothing else (which there is clearly much more) he comes across as a genuine, humble, high integrity, likable guy. Yay!
has zucker weighed in on Gideon yet? lol
so what's the latest summary of the coaching staff? what positions are still open?
This seems to be the latest summary...
Steve Sarkisan's staff (projected) Position Status
Kyle Flood OL/OC Hired
AJ Milwee QB Expected
Stan Drayton RB Retained
Andre Coleman WR Retained
Jeff Banks TE/ST Hired
Pete Kwiatkowski DC Likely?
Bo Davis DL Expected
?????? LB ??????
Blake Gideon S Expected
Terry Joseph DPGC/CBs Hired
Torre Becton S&C Expected
Drew Hughes DPP Expected
Like I said, we will be lucky if the staff is set before March 1.
Here is some more on that part of the story, if interested, along with some comments from the Wash locals. This is by Vogel
First off, hell of a job by Super K to keep this under wraps until the proper time he could go live with it. I know it’s tough being an insider subscriber and being withheld from news like this even when it’s known to the mods. To give a sense of how tight Super K held onto this, I had no idea who the unnamed candidate was until Charlie or K tweeted from our main @TFB_Texas account Monday night with the news. So once again, great job by those two guys.
I spoke with two sources close to the Washington football program to get their initial reaction to the news of Pete Kwiatkowski’s taking the Texas defensive coordinator job. The first time either had heard about Kwiatkowski accepting the Texas job came from my question to them, so their reactions were as genuine as they come.
*** The first guy responded with a list of expletives so long that I myself almost went to clean my mouth out with soap. Here’s more of what he had to say. “He’s one of the best X’s and O’s defensive coordinators in the country. He’s not a great recruiter, but is insane as a play caller.”
My source, who referred to Kwiatkowski as ‘Coach K’, said that Coach K is one of the most selfless guys in the profession. He also continued to emphasized how smart of a play caller he was, often calling him a “genius” or “guru” or “magician” when describing him to me.
He added that Coach K is very even keel off the field and overall is a very likable guy.
This source hinted at Coach K’s specialty coming in game planning and in-game adjustments. He will be able to develop his guys into the on-field product he wants.
“He’s not a head coach kind of guy, so he’s fine being a DC. He doesn’t recruit all that great, although it seemed he was getting better. But again, he is so good he doesn’t really have to. He won’t have to recruit much at Texas. It’s ****** Texas.”
*** My other source was more recently inside the football building at Washington and reiterated a lot of what the first guy had to say in regards to play calling and being a defensive coordinator in general.
This source had more to say on what to expect in the recruiting side of things. He said Coach K likely won’t be in contention for recruiter of the year like some of these other heavyweight DC’s known by all fans across the country.
He added that his success as a recruiter will depend mostly on the assistants around him on the defensive side of the ball. Something Texas surely loaded up on this offseason as we know.
My source closed it out with this – “But man, he can use that damn Longhorn logo and get anyone.” Of course hinting at the on-field play combined with what Texas itself brings to the table as a program/name.
Kwiatkowski was at UW for 7 seasons. Of those 7, he had 4 where no opponent scored more than 35 points
In 2017, Penn State scored exactly 35 points in a 35-28 victory in the Fiesta Bowl.
In 2019, Oregon scored exactly 35 points in a 35-31 victory in Eugene.
The last time a team put up 40 on a Kwiatkowski defense was Nov 8, 2014.
No more excuses. Let’s roll Boys and Texanne
