Never though I'd be kinda excited about going to Akron, Oh with my job.. but if I can see Colt play some more games I'll be a happy camper
I think Colt is going to flourish under Holmgren, Shurmur, that system and style of offense. I'm real excited to watch the Browns this season. It'll be like a reunion when they play the Bengals.
Of course the play that should have been highlighted as a program changer was Colt's injury. By the time this play occurred, the outcome of the game was already decided.
Sitting in the stands watching that game, I can assure you that it didn't feel settled when we hit the second TD pass and cut it to 3 or 4 (I can't remember which.)
I firmly believe that the "loss" was caused by a WR running the wrong route (not uncommon in the Mack Brown era) resulting in an INT. While Colt's injury was potentially devastating, and Mack Brown's total focus on building stats for his stars rather than giving backups experience being a major contributor, we were still able to mount a comeback until yet one more WR made the wrong read and ran the wrong route.
No way to know for sure, but as objectively as possible, Texas most likely wins based on the way that game went without him.
It would have been different game for sure. My personal belief is that by the 4th quarter the Texas offense would have been in total control with the $EC ground attack oriented defense totally spent after chasing 3 to 5 receivers all night.
We still could have won if a) the coaches had not called that stupid shovel pass right before the half and b) Malcolm Williams catches a TD pass that hit him right in the hands at the goal line. If those 2 plays go our way, I say we win that game and GG's career at UT would have been completely different. That game was a microcosm of the complete lack of support GG would get from his coaches and his fellow players for the rest of his time at UT.
Totally agree Phil. Not to mention, if we won that game, Mack would not lose his marbles and try to ditch the spread offense, wasting the next off-season trying to copy Alabama. I am as critical of Mack as anyone, but it would sure be nice to have a few stars with stat-lines to feed again.
Especially given how they couldn't even cover Jordan Shipley by himself even when none of the other guys were threats. I think Kirby Smart got a little overconfident thinking they had guys who could guard him 1 on 1 without any help....
