Culture

Interesting read about the culture change with the team. Was impressed to see Gunner quoting team GPA for each year. We don't hear much about that it seems, but his comments sound like it is definitely a point of emphasis. I would say that is an integral part of culture

Also related to culture is the respect and care for ALL athletes. A long but insightful look at how all our athletes are feed. I was very surprise to hear that in 2012 they only got 1 meal a day. The video sure made me hungry for salmon.

It is good to see the culture change reflected in the on field and off the field success. Early on we heard about the culture change but the tangible proof was hard to see. It isn't any longer it is eminently visible and tangibly present.

Herman absolutely needed to go but I was very leery of the Sark hire as the replacement when it happened. I have never been happier to have been proven completely wrong in having my doubts. He was the absolute right hire at the right time and it just shows Trust CDC should be all of our mantras.

The Sark hire was certainly a shocker and props to CDC for having the vision to see what Sark could become.
I still have to shake my head when I think about what a hot commodity TH was when we hired him, and what a flop he turned out to be. He was always looking for the big splash photo op. Witness the sh*t show hard hat and sledge hammer video of them tearing out the old lockers. Then there was all the talk about culture, which was a nothing burger and a bunch of noise about water bottles and urine color. What a God awful mess!

Sark has done an incredible job with the culture. Culture beats talent all day long. When sark got here the culture was a complete disaster for many reasons including the woke bs. Tom Herman was the main culprit for allowing such a bad culture but there were others including a few that are still there. In my view it was so bad and I was so disgusted with it I dropped my season tickets which I had for 25 years. Sark turned this around in an incredible amount of time. For this reason, Texas will be in the mix pretty much every year. Sark deserves so much credit for where this program is and I hope he is our coach for many years to come. And the positive culture change is not just a benefit in wins and losses, it is a major benefit in many ways for the players and the fans.
And these players the last 2 or 3 years changed the culture in a big way. We owe them a big appreciation for that. Like helm said 3 years ago nobody wanted to be there but now everyone wants to come here. Sark and the players deserve tremendous credit. Too bad they didn’t get a natty because they deserved it but 2 semifinal appearances based on where we were a short time ago is pretty amazing.

Agree totally. I think that goes a long way in explaining why I feel a unique special connection with this group of players. Good kids make for a special team that is easy to support.

Mack was good in this regard as well. Until 2010, at least. Even though he had a handful of teams underachieve (2002-03, 2006-07), he'd either trim the fat of the ones who were dragging people down in the locker room, or reward guys who were lifting others up. Once the failed experiment of "let's be Bama" happened, he lost pretty much everyone, including assistant coaches.

You can see this in TX high school ranks a lot. While the rest of the country builds private school "superteams" made up of transfers from around the nation, Texas schools have to focus on culture, scheme, and systems in place to retain the culture. It's something that Chuck Strong and Tom Herman didn't understand.

I think Sark is both an outstanding offensive mind AND, it appears, a very good leader. Sucks for us. Given the pain and suffering that 24/7365 recruiting that the portal has brought on, he's doing well enough to get interest from the NFL and make that actually attractive. I'm pulling for that outcome. :)

Bubba,

We have been there and languished there. You had a great President, but replaced him with a moron (see also aTm). Focus on that office. Joe knows what he's doing if you get the shackles off of him. Venables is/was a horrible hire - see also John Blake & Charlie Strong.

I would welcome y'all back because of the strength of both, but I didn't know how good CDC would be. We are now looking for a new President, and I don't think people realize how much is riding on that choice. It's scary.
