Horns are still alive but have to beat Mississippi State twice. First shot is Friday evening. Game is on ESPN.

Texas has Ty Madden on four full days rest while Bulldogs could throw Bednar again or save him and Horns see their number three starter. Texas’ deep staff comes into play and the fact that Gordon and Kubichek remain fully rested for long relief is huge. Have to believe entire staff is available as needed tomorrow with exception of Stevens who is your Saturday starter if Texas can get there and Hansen who threw five and 2/3rds tonight.

    C'mon Horns!

Let's shell them tonight, and shut them down! And do the same tomorrow!

Bednar, Schmednar -- we can take these forest aggies (or whatever they are... / crummy casino aggies...?).

    Re-posted from other thread--

Just looking at the #s of some of our pitchers who have not yet thrown in the CWS:

(of course, as some have pointed out, Cole Quintinilla didn't throw many pitches, so we could see him again tonight, or tomorrow; possibly the same with Nixon)

    Lucas Gordon
    3.32 ERA
    1.11 WHIP

    0-0
    1 save
    21.2 innings pitched
    19 SO
    9 walks

    Palmer Wenzel
    3.32 ERA
    1.43 WHIP

    3-0
    1 save
    21.2 innings pitched
    13 SO
    9 walks

Kolby Kubichek -- began the year as our #3 starter, but kinda faded with the emergence of Pete Hansen as a BAMF. Kolby still could be counted on for some middle relief.
    3.86 ERA
    1.50 WHIP
    5-3
    0 saves
    51.1 innings pitched
    41 SO
    27 walks

Jared Southard -- here's an interesting possibility for an inning or two...
    0.00 ERA
    1.10 WHIP
    0-0
    0 saves
    10.0 innings pitched
    16 SO
    7 walks

    Drew Shifflet
    4.02 ERA
    1.40 WHIP
    1-0
    0 saves
    15.2 innings pitched
    14 SO
    9 walks

    Austin Wallace
    4.50 ERA
    1.00 WHIP
    0-0
    0 saves
    2.0 innings pitched
    0 SO
    0 walks

I wonder if the threat of rain will deter MSU from starting Bednar?

Feel like our boys could use the rest.

Less an issue now since the rain delay affects both Texas and MSU equally whereas last night that was not the case.

Was referring to the lack of rest from last nights game mc. A delay tonight would give our boys the chance to catch up on some rest for their next game. They’re young but still 1:30 - 2:00 am to a 6:00 pm game is quick.

Okay, I see the delay will help us more than them. So a reversal from a potential delay in last night’s game.

    Regarding MSU's rest
Since they are not home but in a charged atmosphere their "rest" may not be that much of an advantage.
Or at least that is what I am hoping.:coolnana:

Why is game time still showing 6 pm? Obviously not possible.

Houston Harding takes the mound for MSU. 2.87 ERA. 7-2. Hefty looking fellow with tree trunk legs. Looks like more of a fullback than a pitcher.

Guess we’ll see our good pal Bednar tomorrow.

Strike Zone’s looking a bit large. As long as he’s consistent and it’s just as large for our pitchers…

If we get ahead, then MSU will stick with their 2nd rate pitchers to save them for tomorrow.

I don’t think Madden realized the wider strike zone. Every pitch down the middle.

Let’s what happens in next 3 innings. Also, it will be a bullpen game. I like our chances.

    Just my personal early observations:

The Ump is also giving our pitcher strike calls on slightly inside balls, so that’s consistent with both teams.

Some of Madden’s breaking stuff here early on isn’t exactly breaking too much.

Madden isn’t himself yet. We’ll prolly need to really put some runs on the board tonight.

Boy that’s an awful lot of dandelion fluff or something blowing around in the air in Omaha.
