Two straight late night's with Texas baseball have the Horns one win from the CWS championship series. With game 13 between NC State and Vandy declared a no contest this will be only game Saturday as Horns try to come all the way through the losers bracket to take Bracket B. Weather permitting the game is a 6 p.m. start on ESPN2. Texas has Tristan Stevens on effectively four days rest from his short Tuesday afternoon start that only went 3 and a third. Have to figure that everyone but Madden and Witt are available for duty out of the staff.
I have serious concerns about back to back late night games. Even though these guys are young it still has to take a toll on their bodies. Here's to hoping they can pull it off and move on to play a Vandy team that did not earn their way to the finals.
Ivan's bat has come alive, going to need that tonight Texas' Melendez Lives Childhood Dream, Keeps Texas Alive In College World Series (msn.com)
I think Stevens’ ERA for the season is actually lower than Bednar’s. Obviously, Bednar’s been on fire lately. This isn’t a mismatch. We can take them. Bednar seemed to be getting ahead of our bats and striking us out high a lot. Maybe some swing adjustments and choking up a tad might help us with that…? I’d love to see our power hitters take that high fastball out of the park.
Forecast for tonight, per Weather Underground: Partly cloudy. Low 62F. Winds NW at 10 to 15 mph. No mention of rain or storms, hooray
4 straight balls by Bednar to walk Melendez. He ain’t going after our big guy. And follow it up by a nice bunt. Let’s bring him home!
Let's see how this guy is from the stretch. It's not something he had to deal with much the other night.
All right. The ump is giving Bednar some strike calls on low balls that were clearly out of the strike zone. He’d better do the same for Stevens.
Wtf. That last inside corner pitch called a ball for Stevens!?!? That was a strike for sure if Bednar threw it.
