CWS Game 2 Texas v Florida

Gotta get some runners home

 

Horns leave 2 on, then gives up the K.

Pitchers duel going on right now.

Top 6th.

 

Need some damn runs!

 

Slow top of 6th. 1st Gator doubles. 2nd pops up; no advance. 3rd batter Ks.

2 out.

 

Shugart walks the batter. Runners at 1st, 2nd, two outs.

 

Base hit, 2-0 Gators, still 2 outs, 2 on.

 

India goes yard. 5-0 Gators.

Still 2 outs.

But bases are clear.

 

Ground out. Horns to bat, bottom of 6th.

 

Kody up, 1st pitch to RF pole, would be HR if about 10 feet to the left. Alas, no.

 

Kody Ks.

 

3 up, 3 down for Horns, to top of 7th for Gators.

 

Shugart gets batter to line to Hamilton who then throws to 1st, DP, end of top of 7th. 5-0 Gators.

 

Gator starting pitcher starts bottom of 7th, 11 Ks, 2 walks, no runs.

But Horns have had chances. McKenzie base hit to lead off.

 

Starting to rain.

 

Hibbeler drives to center, stretches single into double.

Horns on 2nd, 3rd, no outs.

Come on, Horns!!!

 

Shaw strikes out. 1 out. Horns at 2nd, 3rd.

 

Reynolds strikes out. 2 outs. Horns on 2nd, 3rd.

 

Gator starter pulled. 13 Ks, 5 hits, 2 BBs, no runs. Rain letting up a bit.

 

Hamilton looks at strike 3 from new pitcher. Ouch.

 

Get some runs!

 

1st Gator in top of 8th into left field bull pen. 6-0.

 

Sawyer in to pitch for Horns.

 

To bottom of 8th.

Horns can do this.

Remember Augie, something like this: "Don't try to win the game with each at bat. Just win your at bat. Win the inning. The rest will take care of itself."

That flamethrower is in the dugout. Maybe Horns can get a couple of rallys.

Got bottom of 8th and bottom of 9th.

 

No bats. Too much looking. Will never beat a good hitting team. I am very impressed with their getting to the World Series but they cannot score enough runs to be competitive in this environment.
I never liked small ball. I can only hope that David Pierce feels the same way.

 

Todd walks.

Kody walks.

Horns at 1st, 2nd, no outs.

 

Gator reliever pulled after starting Zubia at 0-1, goes to 2-1. New pitcher. Rain has stopped.

 

A couple of good recruiting years and Pierce could have this program elite again. I would think getting to the CWS this year will make recruiting a little easier.

 

Zubia flies deep to left/center. Runners hold. 1 out.

 

Petrinski line drives to center. Horns score 1. 5 to go to tie.
