That is just to ******* sad, sometimes cops can be real *******.. On a lighter note, maybe he just has a hard-on for all things Houston
I feel bad for both sides. Attitude IS everything and if you seem hostile to a cop....then guess what...this is what might occur.
The story fails to mention that he ran the red light a few miles from the hospital and didn't pullover when the cop first pulled behind him. If he pulls over right away, informs the officer of the situation, he gets an escort to the hospital, can run red lights under a police escort with less chance of causing an accident then if he just runs red lights at his discretion. Both parties are to blame here, the cop once learned of the situation should have been more leniant, but he followed protocal, of which he puts his job and life at risk if he does not follow protocal. Another situation of the media only reporting half the story.
Yeah, I guess according to majorwhiteapples, he should have been arrested for reckless driving. 3 miles away, covered in 1:20 or less? He was going 135 miles an hour! Good thing the officer went even faster than that to catch him!
Cops are bad. Bad, bad, bad. If fact I can't wait for the day when they have to use water guns because they are just too bad with real guns. Bad bad bad
Even in an emergency situation you are required to pull over to a cop. Hell it is in your best interest to pull over, the cop would give you an escort making it safer to get through lights and safer for the other drivers on the road. Who doesn't get that? Also knowing the intersections he was driving through in North Dallas kinda busy road, even at midnight. If you read my post, I even say the cop could have handled the situation better after the facts were clear.
I had a friend in college who got a call early in the morning that her grandfather had suffered a heart attack and that she should get to the hospital as soon as possible. She sped like a mad woman on I-10, probably going well over 100 mph, and was pulled over. The cop saw she was distressed, heard her story, and became an escort for her the rest of the way. It probably took two minutes. Now why is this so hard to understand? Seriously.
Well if he would have pulled over, been escorted, he would not have been questioned in the hospital parking lot and saved a lot of time. There would also have been less danger to the public. Another thing he could have done, as he was originally getting in his car or heading to his car is call E911. They would have gladly helped him get to the hospital. Keeping the public and Moats as safe as could be provided. Being a member of NENA, I have some knowledge of the field. National Emergency Number Association. Don't get me wrong, I understand what Moats was doing, until you are put in this situation you are going to what you need to do. Hopefully, after reading this other people in this situation will engage the Police/Public Safety to get them where they need to go in an emergency situation.
The right thing to do definitely would have been just to pull over, but under those situations, I'm not sure you're always capable of coming up with the right solution. Yes, he would have had to deal with the cop if he pulled over, but he had to do it anyway, and it was probably worse. Having said that, the cop acted like a pompous jerk and was clearly wrong. Just because the guy didn't handle the situation exactly as he should doesn't justify what happened.
Has anyone listened to the recordings of this? Wow. What a piece of crap that cop is. Typical meathead who lets his power go to his head. Guys like this need to be off the street. The NURSES from the hospital came down and TOLD the cop the lady was about to die, and she did, but he refused to let the guy go. This guy lacks the decency and common sense to carry a gun. And Moats answered all his questions with "yes sir" Even after said meathead told him, "You know if I want to SCREW YOU OVER, I can." F this guy.
Yes, if you watch that complete video and think this guy should keep his job as a beat cop, you're an idiot. At the very least this guy needs to be reassigned to a desk in data entry and be required to apologize in person to Moats and his family. Personally, I think Moats should be allowed 3 minutes in a locked cage w/ that piece of ****. I bet Powell would be a tad less disrespectful.
A large percentage of cops are good people. A large percentage are also bullies from high school who didn't have much going for them in their early to mid 20's and discovered a job that gave them unquestioned authority and a gun. DPD should change it's slogan "To intimidate and harass."
I have the utmost respect for honest upstanding law enforcement personel. When my son passed away, several of the folks with APD went out of their way to help my family and I will never forget that. Unfortunately there has always been a minority of cops that are on a power trip and they are a real disservice to the good ones that are truly there "to protect and serve".
Watch the video. There was no time to pull over. Moats was maybe half a mile from the hospital when he went through the red light. The cop go to him at the entrance to hospital parking lot. Moats drove another 15-20 secs to get to the emergency exit, all the while with hazard lights on. There was no chase here.
I heard details on the morning sports radio shows from those who watched the video. Sounds like the cop is a true jerk, probably a racist jerk, and should be fired immediately. I predict he will be fired due to public outrage over this incident. He detained the driver, and the other relatives of the dieing woman in the parking lot of the emergency room. The two women ran inside anyway. A uniformed officer came outside to confirm the truth of their story. The cop continued to detain the agrieved relatives until after the woman died. Tell me how this cop should not be fired? I know they all are not like this, but unless you weed out the bad apples, the public will continue to believe they are all power mad bullies like this jerk. Fire him now.
