So who out there is willing to sacrifice Meemaw and Pawpaw to save the dow?
Is the question so stupid you had to ask it twice?
So do you agree with our LT. Governor or not?
I don't know what he said, nor what he meant when he said it. I have no doubt whatever it was came out sounding really stupid. I don't have any interest in tracking it down and attempting to parse what he meant vs what came out of his mouth.
I also have no doubt that the media put the worst possible spin on it, and you came running here to play a game of "gotcha". So for my part, allow me to give you a cookie and a virtual pat on the head for scoring a point in a game of "gotcha" with Dan F'n Patrick. Good job. Bravo!
I asked a simple question. Either you agree or you don't. Nice deflection though.
Did you "deflect" or "defect" or just simple "etc"?
I have known Dan for 35 years, don't hing on his every word, or anything he says for that matter, but if you get an answer to your question rather than another deflection, please forward it, but only after you put your deflection shield back up.
I absolutely agree with President Trump that we do not need to shut down the country because of CV. That "cure" is worse than the disease. It is not worth it for the economy to be wrecked and millions lose their jobs for this. People who feel they are at risk can take their own measures to limit their exposure to others if they think they need to. Why does the government need to force everyone else to stay home just to protect a minority of the populace who are most at risk?
Living everyday has a certain amount of risk. Thousands die every year from auto accidents, but we do not outlaw driving. I say people should do what is best for them in their situation and it is not the government's responsibility for make that decision for them when doing so has such a damaging effect on the economy and employment.
What are you gonna do about the suicides from depression in people who have lost their jobs or their retirement savings or what-have-you? Do you not care about those folks? I bet there might be some Meemaws and Pawpaws in that group, too.
I heard what Patrick said. You're pretty much right.
No reasonable person could watch what he said and think it was bad. But, there are a lot of unreasonable people out there and on here.
No reasonable person could watch what Dan Patrick said and think it was as bad as @HANNAHORN portrays it. But I do think a reasonable argument can be made that what he said reflects bad public policy.
A reasonable argument could also be made that it is good public policy. See, that what makes arguments arguments.
More and more reasonable people will probably be of a mindset that those with symptoms and those who could likely die from this should stay home. Let the damn economy get going and get back to life.
Dan Patrick said something like, don't worry about us old people, we can take care of ourselves, we don't want the economy to be destroyed.
The Cultural Marxists among us have translated that into something like, Dan Patrick wants old people to sacrifice themselves and die for the economy.
I don't agree or disagree with the original statement. I totally disagree with how his statement was twisted.
The good thing is we can do both at the same time: protect the most vulnerable among us, and allow the economy to function at a reasonable though muffled level.
I don't think anybody is saying that we should all go to Emo's every night for a week. I think restaurants, bars, even sporting events could open up with new protocols and maybe reduced capacity in a week of two.
Start with all the more isolated states like New Mexico and Montana. Then branch out from there. Places like Atlanta, Chicago, Washington, California, and New York would open up last and more slowly.
Bingo. Over 3,000 people die each day from auto accidents and the corona virus isn't anywhere near that in a 2 mos. We're not too far above the deaths by lightning strike at this point, but do you think you'll hear anything about other numbers in the MSM?
I"ll bet my retirement savings that if we have an economic collapse there will be far more deaths due to suicide and murder than what the coronavirus does.
What about the meemaws and pawpaws who have worked their butt off all their life, are now 63 years old, thinking they can finally retire and enjoy life, but in 2 mos. their retirement is gone? What do you tell these people?
9 people died in Texas so far in a month. I think it is more than appropriate to ask when we can open up. What’s the trigger? Mask count, test count and/or ventilator count? Good thing we have Republicans in charge making grown up decisions.
Cuomo addressed the meemaw issue this morning. Someone asked him why he was working so hard and inconveniencing everyone for only 1% who are old. He was pretty blunt in saying of course he will work hard to keep everyone safe.
I doubt we will see HH again in this thread since Pelousie backed off her crap of a bill
Were virtual cookies and pats on the head not good enough for you?
The 3k per day figure is worldwide. In the US, the number is just under 100 per day. Link
Coronavirus deaths in the US today were 163, and the number is increasing rapidly. It is too early to guess whether it caps out at 500/day or 10,000 /day, and how long that lasts. Until we have a better grasp on that, I’d prefer to err on the side of caution.
Also, the fair comparison is to how many coronavirus deaths there would have been in the absence of precautions. That number would undoubtedly be higher than the number of deaths that are currently happening.
The latest in pearl clutching. Nice
I agree with Dan Patrick. Here is his position:
Tucker Carlson Tonight | March 23, 2020 - Dan Patrick, Lieutenant Governor
Who out there is willing to vote for Democrats in order to kill unborn babies?
Which is roughly 8-9 times MORE than have died in Texas for the entirety of the covidiocy.
I believe we have already seen where the worst of the situation is...I don't believe that Texas is magically going to start seeing hundreds per day (or even TENS per day) when we were at 12 Statewide as a collective total for the entirety of the tracking period.
And yet, meanwhile, we don't shut down an entire worldwide economy for the flu, which clearly kills more people annually...
60,000 people died in 2017-2018 and 70,000 died in 2009-2010 from the flu in the US alone (IIRC). Normally it’s about 20k. If we end up much less than this, there will be severe pushback on the economic shutdowns. The real issue is where was the gov on surplus ventilators and masks? Maybe they should care less about global warming.
Obama did not resupply the masks after H1N1.
Cuomo did not order 15,000 ventilators in 2015. Instead developed a triage system.
Trump was going to be bashed no matter what. Look at the insults when he put travel ban on China
Look at how Trump was bashed for saying the mortality rate was going to get under 1% and that chloroquine might work. He very well could be right on both of those issues.
I just read a blurb on a Doc at KU who reports cholorquine is working. He is in the field treating people
Then the idiot Gov of Nevada bans it. Why?
Hate to wish ill on snyone but he might be a first for me
The left is politicizing Corona Virus. Using it as a weapon on Trump. They'll use any strawman they can find. Man drinking aquarium cleaner. A 96 year old passing away of raspatory issues and claiming it's Covid 19. Could have been pneumonia. My grandmother died of that in 81'. I can imagine that people are dying not being tested, and it being blamed on Covid 19. For political reasons. Dr's are notating all kinds of medical information on sick patients. Media could be using medical information incorrectly, trying to create a rift with Dr Fauci (advising Trump), trying to not let him start up the economy so the DJI, Nasdaq all fall miserably. Any number of possible things they are using to slam Trump in light of all this. Yet his approval rating is over 60%.
KU? Kansas University?
I don't understand why Cuomo says he needs 30,000 ventilators when there are only 30,000 cases in the state? 80% are mild and only 3% are serious to critical. Yes it's possible it could get to 30,00 serious to critical cases, but going from 900 to 30,000 is certainly a far stretch at this point.
Yes. In the Big 8 they called all their schools KU OU NU etc
This Doc was also at one time Gov of Kansas. Has some cred
