Dartmouth vs Horns

Dartmouth is the "Jock School" of the Ivies. We should sweep them, but strange things happen in this game.

After 4, Texas is up 2-1. Offense is letting them hang around again. Spencer has 5k’s and 4bb’s and thrown 67 pitches so far. Bats have gone cold again.

Riojas is really something. He's spotting his fastball just right, and with some drop to it at the plate.

He's a keeper.

Bottom of 6th.

Farmer's on . Hit a double earlier todayl

Farmer steals 2nd..

Deep fly to CF. Farmer moves to 3rd.

One down.

3-1 Horns.

Galvan -- showing better plate discipline than last year. He would've chased that ball 1 1/2 feet outside last year and swung at that ball in the dirt before it.

Galvan puts it in play. 2B can't go home in time to get Farmer, so he gets Galvan at first. RBI grounder. 2 ldown.

4-1 us.

Mendoza walks.

Now Shoos hits a Texas leaguer into CF. D CF dives and misses. Shoos to 2nd and Mendoza to 3rd.

2 on 2 ouit

Max B to the plate.

Belyeu backwards K. It looked 1/2 a foot too high and 1/2 a foot inside. This ump wants to go home to the fireplace and drink hot chocolate.

Riojas owns the lower 1/4 of the strikezone. Then he'll go up high and get a fly out. He's tough to hit.

Spencer threw well, and so did Riojas until the 8th inning rolled around. Then Burns shows up in the 8th with the bases loaded and one out, and he gets a strike out and a fly ball to escape with our narrow lead in tact.

One rough inning for Riojas, otherwise an excellent outing for the arms.

Bats were a little cold, but not ice cold. Chalk up another "W" for the Horns!!!

And for any lurking Dartmouth fans out there, here's some academic smack with you in mind:

Dartmouth's business school specializes in minting assistant managers at Taco Bell.

2 more games. We should get to see a lot more of our pitching staff Saturday and Sunday.

Outfielder Tommy Farmer IV hit a pair of doubles, drove in a run and scored another on the day; one of his hits helped Texas build a first-inning 2-0 lead. The Longhorns held a 4-1 advantage before Dartmouth battled back with two runs in the eighth inning.

BURNS:

No. 16 Texas jumped out to an early lead and sophomore right-handed pitcher Thomas Burns recorded the final five outs to seal the series opener over Dartmouth, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

With the Longhorns (3-1) holding onto a one-run lead over the Big Green (0-1) in the eighth, Burns entered with the bases loaded.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound hurler recorded a strikeout and an induced a flyout to eliminate the threat before tossing a scoreless ninth to lock up Texas' home opener.

The five-out save marked the first of Burns' career after he made six starts as a freshman at Arizona State in 2024.

Galvan puts it in play. 2B can't go home in time to get Farmer, so he gets Galvan at first. RBI grounder. 2 ldown.

4-1 us.
And as it turns out, this RBI grounder (in which Galvan was thrown out at first), and after Farmer stole 2nd, then advanced to 3rd on a sac fly, was the difference in the game.

GAME 2

Dartmouth put up a run in the top of the first.

Shoos grounds out

Max B. Single.
