I didn't want this to get lost/mired in the transfer portal thread. Condolences to Destiny who lost her father today.
I just wanted to mention something for Foundation members: we are bound by NCAA regulations for financial support or gifts to players. I don't know if the GoFundMe campaign would count, but it is worth looking into so no one accidentally creates a violation that interferes with her eligibility.
Karen Aston and Tiffany Jackson retweeted Destiny's request so I'd think everything was cleared but I'm not familiar with the rules specific to Foundation members. In addition, the compliance office allowed something similar a few years ago to linebacker Dalton Santos whose mother needed heart surgery. Link below to the SI article... Texas Linebacker Dalton Santos Pleas for Donations for Mom's Open Heart Surgery, Fans Answer The Andrew Jones fundraising was actually hosted by the UT website so I assumed that was a clear indication that there was no compliance issue.
Thank you Karen and DFW. I was worried about this. I remembered a media story about the NCAA revoking a student’s eligibility over a Gofundme account. NCAA backtracked later but still....
I get a mailer every year that lays out some specific restrictions. It goes out to all Foundation members and is part of a larger mailer.
Just to alleviate any remaining concerns, this was the most recent update posted: “This fundraising site has been reviewed and approved by the University of Texas in partnership with the NCAA. Donations made through this site will directly support the Littleton family in paying for burial and funeral expenses. The University of Texas fans, donors and staff are permitted to contribute. Funds raised are subject to specific parameters to ensure NCAA compliance and Destiny’s family will work closely with The University of Texas to ensure such compliance. Please contact the Texas Athletics Risk Management and Compliance Services office at 512-471-8193 or compliance@athletics.utexas.edu should you have any questions about NCAA rules as it relates to this fundraiser. Thank you in advance for your support and contribution.”
