Facebook helped the Pakistani government ID blasphemers against Muhammed a couple of years ago. All these social media companies are rotten.
I really want some competitors to spring up. The Vietnamese have already jumped off of Facebook for Minds.com because Facebook was helping the Vietnamese government to regulate speech.
I used to really like Google. But now I only use it because there isn't a great alternative to Youtube yet.
Somewhere on the horizon, maybe not too far off, I think we could see more decentralized “social media” (for lack of a better term) being built out on distributed blockchain technology. Ethereum is one possible platform for this, others are in the works, but the possibilities look promising.
Blockchain tech could very well be disrupting financial services before long as well. There is some very interesting work going on there now.
