Late block sparks brawl between Kansas, KSU needless to say daSousa's year is over (college career too?)
Although I have to say I respect the Kansas State team more than our team. At least the Kansas State players had fight in them and enough pride to get angry at the disrespect they were getting. Other than Kai Jones who actually showed fight and cared, our players did not seem to care at all they were getting trounced and embarrassed by WVU's backups and walk ons. Of course when you have an athletic department that does not care, you get a head coach that does not care. When you have a head coach that does not care, you get players that do no care.
It's a game. A GAME. What I saw tonight was madness. No player should care so much about a game to the point that they are willing to assault someone while playing a game that they love and are in a position to play at that level. In my opinion, their coaches, their teammates, their peers, and possibly their parents have all failed them. More importantly, as adult men, they have failed themselves. That was truly a regrettable event.
I don't know if I agree with that. I didn't think it was a dirty play. He blocked the shot. Maybe a 3 game suspension.
I don't think chasing someone into the stands and trying to attack them with a chair will get him off with just a 3 game suspension....
Not that impressed with the "fight" shown by stealing the ball from a team that's just trying to run the clock out with the shot clock off in a game that's already over. But all De Sousa had to do to make his point was was swat the shot and make the dude look foolish, which he did. Once he walked over him and stood there, he was the instigator of the fight - and then as the fight continued he was the perpetrator of some of its worst parts.
It looked like at least some of the men in suits (assistant coaches?) were throwing punches and pulling people down, instead of just getting between players and trying to stop the fight. Also, the guy in the white pants and black shirt was punching a player. I'm not sure who he was. A KU male cheerleader stepped in between some of the combatants to help break it up.
I've watched the replay of this a couple of times. What a brawl. When I first saw it I just sat there in some sort of shock. Couldn't believe the KU player picked up a stool to go after other guys. NCAA may come down hard on the participants, or at least they should.
Big XII suspended De Sousa for 12 games. He'll probably be back for the tournament. I didn't realize he was such bad news for Kansas. HIs recruitment surfaced in the FBI probe and got Kansas in NCAA trouble. Those allegations are being appealed. The NCAA suspended him for two years, but Kansas appealed it down to one year, allowing him to play this season.
Weak suspensions. McCormick threw several punches and gets 2 games? Only 4 players in total suspended? What?
Really? Remember that someone had to explain to Bowelsby that schools other than Kansas played basketball. My sources tell me that he remembers it as his trip in March when he gets a large suite in a great hotel with expensive food and more expensive wine.
I would like to clarify that I am not in favor of brawls. I equally condemn the Kansas-Kansas State players involved with the rest of this board. Texas' lethargic play against West Virginia and the Kansas-Kansas State brawl were two opposite, extreme and wrong ends of the spectrum to be on. However, yes, I have more respect for those that wrongly care too much than our team (excluding Kai Jones) who did not have any pride to care whatsoever.
