I'll say this nicely - It's a tradition that's been around for decades. And fans do stick around. Maybe the snowflakes are the ones who don't care about it.

I wondered about the no play before the game too. Seems that would be a no brained with players not yet on field.

The signing is of Eyes of Texas has been a way for fans and players to show appreciation for each other at the end of the game.

With this past band of underperforming players, don't know how much appreciation the fans should have even tried to show.

Thankfully, most of the worst turds self-flushed themselves down the toilet bowl before the Alamo bowl, leaving a far better team without them.

Give the Alamo Bowl credit. They played the CU fight song, they played Texas Fight during the game. I don't remember the CU school song, but they had left the field before The Eyes of Texas was played.

I saw some players (butt deep in balloons) looking around for where to go sing, but that part was a disorganized mess.

Team that played in the bowl deserve a lot of credit. You can tell they prepared hard, had a solid game plan, and executed. They could have mailed it in like Florida and had every excuse to but they came out to play.

I liked Overshown’s comments after the game. Sounds like he re-committed to the program and is moving forward. His play matched the tweet he had 1-2 weeks ago.

They did, OL was decimated, best player on D was gone, skeleton secondary. But played hard and well.

I enjoyed the game for what it was, but you can't draw any conclusions from it for next year. This time 366 days ago Texas whipped up on Utah in the Alamo bowl, looked very good, then was 2-2 after 4 games.

Bowl wins don't translate to good seasons under Herman. But it was a good evening, and I'm sure Colorado's fan(s) didn't enjoy it at all.

@MC, do you happen to have a transcript of or can you repeat the gist of what he said? Anything resembling an apology for his previous misguided conduct? Very good player, I'd really like to be a fan again.

    This, I think!

"I appreciate it, man. I want to thank God, I want to thank my family and I want to thank this wonderful team, because if it weren't for them, I wouldn't be here right now," Overshown said in the above video following his defensive MVP win. "Like I said a while ago, you ain't seen nothing yet. 2021, be aware."

I don’t disagree with you that it is a tradition that has been around for a long time. I’m a 3rd generation Longhorn so you don’t have to explain it to me. Nicely or not.
but you’re wrong if you think many fans stick around for it . They do not. It’s a very small percentage. and so I just think it’s funny / hypocritical that none of you all even know if it was sang after the game or not but will be plenty outraged if you learn the team didn’t honor the tradition that you’re Too preoccupied trying to beat the traffic To honor yourself.

The bigger the game and more significant the win, the more fans stay.

I wasn't at the game, so I don't know what happened, which is why I asked. I put the responsibility on Herman bc he's the one who told players they didn't have to gather for EoT. I don't think TH cares and let's the players do what they want. And that I have a problem with.

But I’m not wrong that many don’t stick around for it. Typical home game we have 90,000 in attendance and might have a couple of hundred stay. Not a lot of us have much of a Leg to stand on ehrn chastising the players.

I’m just trying not to let y’all act like a bunch of gomers over this.

There's the saying that goes something like "the only thing you can count on is that everything will change".
There was a time when women weren't allowed in a$m.
Do they allow one on the cheer squad yet. ;)
Blacks weren't allowed in much anywhere.
    Traditions also come and go.
I am all for the EoT.
But what if they stop playing it?
You're gonna get all puffed up and stop following your team?
    Okay, bye.
Because 10 to 15 thousand freshman show up next year creating new fans along with their family and will they care?
And then 10 to 15 thousand the year after that.
None of them will know or care if you are still a fan or not.
I hope this coming season brings calm and the song is still played and the tradition carries on.
If it doesn't will I still be a Horn fan?
    Hell yes!

I always loved singing The Eyes of Texas, blissfully ignorant of its origins. I'm white, over 60 years old, and never would have made an association between it and systemic racism. Many of these current young athletes, however, apparently do make that association. Unfortunately, I don't think we can go back to everyone singing the song proudly along with the athletes on the field/court/diamond. I'd rather let it go than see the athletes locking arms and looking down or chatting with each other while the fans sing it. I've been a season ticket holder for baseball for over 35 years--singing or not singing The Eyes of Texas won't keep me away.

The question is 'why' the change? Is it bc of a false narrative from a liberal professor based on something that happened 120 yrs ago? Do you except everything people tell you and say, 'well, things change'.

It's interesting that some people are offended by the use of a song from 120 yrs ago even thought it's use from that last 100 yrs has been to celebrate the pride of being a Texan. And the school is still investigating if "any" of the usage was related to racism.

Does anyone get offended by rap music played at football or baseball stadium which, at times, degrades women, police and promotes violence? Let's hold everyone accountable and not just let "players" make all the decisions.

    I accept what I can't change.
    Everybody's feelings are valid.
    Yours, mine and theirs.
Frankly, I can understand how the EoT got lumped into all the upheaval of the last year.
It has been a problem for years past, by the way, but didn't get this much recognition.
I also think it was a mistake and hope it continues to be sung and played.
But whatever happens is beyond my control.
I will continue to support and enjoy Longhorn sports, regardless.

If you don't like the Eyes, you're free to cover your eyes in terror and run hysterically off the field while babbling nonsense about racialism. The rest of us can keep singing the same school song that's been sung since T. Roosevelt was president. No Gomerism required.

That’s some good bull right there. You sound like a good redass ag Duck.

I want to sing it, and I want our players to want to sing it. I would never want it to be made to be compulsory to protect my feelings but that is not the mood of our fanbase, who can’t be bothered themselves to stay for the eyes, unfortunately.

Not sure what a red *** is. Sounds stupid, so I'll have to take your word for it.

Look, your side lost about the Eyes, it's still being played. Just get over it and move on to something else, instead of boring us all about how superior your are since you don't care about it. It's old, and it's boring.

Correct Redass is a very stupid aggy thing.
How about this? Next time you are at a game, big or small, win or lose, stay to the very end and sing the song yourself. Then you can come report back to us about hiw good a job CDC Is doing of protecting your feelings.

I get it, you don't care for the Eyes of Texas, and think you're superior to anyone who does. Great, thanks for playing. Stop insulting those who do. It's old and boring.

No you don’t get it. You don’t get it at all. I am not even sure you’re reading the posts you respond to. You just see someone has a slightly different opinion than you and get triggered.

So serious question for you. When was the last time you stayed after a game and sang the Eyes?

2009 NC game - last game I've been to in person as I've been working overseas. It was a miserable experience being around a bunch of Bama fans but I thought the team tried hard in to win so I should do my part to show my application for their effort.

Only trigged person is you - you pipe in every thread about this topic to try to show how superior you are since you don't care about it. Give it a rest. Your side lost: it's being played, and will be played next year too.

I stay to sing the eyes after every game and so do about half the fans and until this year all the players. Everybody might try it to see why the rest of us love it

    sing it win or lose

Please stop, you're just looking foolish at this point. In one thread, you're called Texas fans Gomers, redassed, snow flakes, triggered, and now Aggies.

All for wanting Texas to do something that'd been done for as long as anyone can remember, and that used to be a cherished part of the Longhorn tradition.

Your side in this lost, just accept it and move on.
