I'm a runner, or at least I pretend to be. The cold/wet days, or days were I'm sore, I don't get out. I'd like something to crosstrain on those days, either an elliptical or a bike. It seems like a decent bike is $1200+ and a decent ellitpical is $1500+. However, spin bikes are almost cheap by comparison. I don't have a HR monitor, but I might get one for xmas anyway. So the lack of bells and whistles seems ok. I've never gone to spin class, so for those who are into it, would it be a worthy choice to get a spin bike for home? Is there such a thing as a recumbent spin bike? I have this dream where I play madden while on a recumbent.

Relatedly (somewhat): Costco is running a deal for 24 hour fitness. One year adult for $200, and add family plan for $150. So less than a dollar a day for your family.
