Need something to tide me over for the next 46 days and looking for some good football movies.

Anyone have any favorites? Here are mine in no particular order.

    Friday Night Lights
    North Dallas 40
    Varsity Blues
    Remember the Titans
    The Longest Yard (the original)
    Undefeated

I have not seen My All American yet... forgive me but its next on my list!

Actually, we need more good football movies that are really about football. Most of them are about other stories that happen to take place to football players or around football teams. So many good story lines to explore within* the game of football, though.

That's why I think Friday Night Lights is one of the best. Its about a football season... there are lots of side stories, but the story when you get down to it is about the football season.

Trouble Along the Way. John Wayne is one hell of a head coach. (Although he is a bigger cheater than Switzer)

Pigskin Parade (1936) is also a must see.

Not saying this is the best, but is not mentioned yet All the Right Moves with Tom Cruise.

This is a must see for a serious fan like you DS.

I waited too late and missed it at the theater. Later viewed it on You Tube - watched it for $5.99 or something - it was real easy.

    Re: the movie.

I've got good knowledge of and a pretty sharp eye for the program, the players, DKR, the games, the uniforms in 1968, 1969 and the sad story of Fred Steinmark. I was impressed with the movie's attention to detail, the settings, getting the facts right, etc. I also re-read Freddy's book - "I Play to Win" around the time the movie came out so that reminded me of some things I had forgotten.

One of James Street's sons played his father (can't remember his name at the moment) - it was like looking at a young James Street. Jordan Shipley played Cotton Speyrer. Case McCoy played Arky QB Bill Montgomery.

I thought it was well done and fairly represented the correct storyline.

Almost forgot about All The Right Moves and The Program. Good ones for sure.
I have never seen Brian's Song, and between those three and My All American, now I got some viewing!

Anyone have any thoughts on the following?:

    Wildcats
    Leatherheads
    Rudy

I may also watch some of the All Or Nothing series about the Rams. I watched a bit of the last one and thought it was kind of a bore. But maybe that is just because Bruce Aryans is a bore.

The Program (1993) with James Caan is okay

(edited out We've Never Been Licked, about aggy and WWII, not really a football movie)

    Brian's Song
    Remember the Titans

There are so few good football movies or sports movies in general. I don't even know if I could make a top 10 of ones I would want to watch a second time.

I haven't watched that many, but I definitely liked Remember the Titans and Rudy. The music in Rudy is so terrific it honestly stirs my emotions.

This is true. So much great un-mined material in sports. Especially for football.
As far as sports movies go, baseball movies are the best. Ironically.

I like Rudy. As Crockett said, the music is great.

I agree with most of the other recommendations here.

Going way, way back--Knute Rockne All American.

Almost forget this one. Saw it when I was 7-8 years old and not since then:

Jim Thorpe - All American staring Burt Lancaster. circa 1951

It really turned me on to football.
