TEXAS has almost always been a very good fielding team. Sometimes (such as last year), we are the best fielding team. That's probably why it's been a bit disconcerting watching our gloves this year. We are not used to watching our fielders commit errors, other than on rare occasions. But, the numbers show it's really not that bad. We're used to almost no errors. Now, we have occasional errors--like a "normal" fielding team.

As of the morning of THE IDES OF MARCH, 2023, we're the 3rd best fielding team in the Big 12.

    Big 12 team fielding %:

    Kansas..........0.988
    Okla St..........0.986
    Texas............0.972
    WV.................0.968
    Baylor............0.967
    TCU................0.964
    Kansas St......0.964
    OU.................0.962
    Tech..............0.951

Better than Caeser's fielding % on the Ides of March.

Cassius, Octavious, and Germanicus worked him over with a lead off single, another single, and a walk. Then Brutus drove a dagger into Caesar's heart with a grand slam.

The Ides of March were cruel to the gloves of Campbell and Grubbs.

Well, to be accurate, it was Grubbs' arm that betrayed him.

Right--he way overthrew 3rd base and shot himself hard in the foot by doing so.

We're the 3rd best fielding team in the Big 12.

    And Tech is the worst.

Daly and Campbell tonight vs Tech. Neither were charged with an E, but both could have been.

Great great leaping catch by Powell of a hard hit line drive by Tech in Game 1.

The sun has really been impacting the outfielders on both teams in the Tech series.

The sun shines brighter in Austin.

The sun was a huge factor today (Sunday).

We need top end sunglasses as part of our uniforms.

Sun is only an issue in early season. By May or June, it’s not as important.

Hard-nosed blocking tag at the plate by Guillemette in game 2 vs. Tech. Yeah! A football-looking move by Guillemette to prevent the run. I think it may have even injured the Tech player.

Depends if they are the rugby or Legionaries type.

Or the guys you might encounter on a bar crawl through Ville Platte or most places in La Fourche Parish.

Powell is my player of the year so far, offensively and defensively he is a lights out cold blooded killer on the baseball Diamond. Just imagine if we had been able to keep Kash at 1st?!? This team would have been unbelievable on defense and offense.

I like JT but I’m getting a little frustrated at the inability to find the bag

Fix the jock straps first, then fielding will follow.

Not everybody has to be the 2nd coming of Ozzie Smith in the field. But on this level, you simply cannot be a liability in the field. You've got to at least be 'ok' in the field, even with a good bat.

    NO LIABILITIES IN THE FIELD!!!

    :soapbox:

(Now, I don't consider any of our current starters to be liabilities in the field. If there are any, there's a DH slot--an abomination to the game--for them to play).

Out OF has really been showing some great range and good gloves lately. We’ve robbed plenty of hitters of doubles in recent

Powell just bumped up his stock by many points with his glove work against Baylor. He was making highlight reel plays yesterday.

The outfielders continue to impress in the field (and at the plate). Their ranges are exceptional.
