I remember riding around west Texas with my dad listening to Ray Price on the 8 Track. RIP to him and my father.
I saw Ray's show a few years back when he was touring with his Cherokee Cowboys. It was a very large band of serious old pros, and the sound was tremendous. After the show, I hung around to get Ray's autograph, and while I was standing there the guy running the house sound system put on a rap song at high volume. Ray glared toward the sound booth and muttered, "What is that ****?" Pretty funny moment. Rest in Peace, Ray. You were one of the greats.
I love this song if only because my dad loved this song and played it a lot...but after hearing it again, it occurs to me that it is a rich and melodic tune, however, I believe it's really Ray Price's voice that makes it. RIP
