UT officials are soliciting bids for a company to replace the gigantic south end zone video board inside Royal-Memorial Stadium with an LED display and add smaller ribbon boards around the stadium’s seating bowl.

UT project manager Jill Stewart said no final company has been selected, but the projected is expected to be completed by the 2017 football season. In fact, the document states that the project should be finished by July 19, 2017, most likely to coincide with the UT’s “Under the Lights” recruiting event.

AND turn down the sound so the fans can hear the LHB, cheer and occasionally talk to the person next to them without having to yell !

Somebody needs to get a message to Bellmont that it isn't the Jumbotron that's bad, it's the insufferable content blaring over the band, the crowd, and anything short of a Rookie League baseball game in Minot, ND. Lose the damn commercials, the stupid third-rate minor league baseball promos, and give Memorial Stadium back to the fans.

Short of that, at the very least send the bimbo, the midget in the goofy looking hat, and the (fill in the blank) weatherman wannabe packing. Rumor has it that Adams State is looking to improve their gameday experience.

I agree with sending the hype crew packing and turning the sound down. Besides how else will we hear the old timers yelling sit down for 3.5 hours.

There are specific seats allotted for those who cannot stand. I am an "oldtimer" and the last time I was told to sit down was 30 years ago by an Aggie, who got his seats for free. I turned and told him that I paid my donation and for my tickets. His were given to him free by some wannabe politician, so sit and shut up or stand and cheer.

If the "oldtimers" are referring to the cretins that make their way to the aisle during plays, and in general do not observe proper stadium etiquette with respect to coming and going during the game, I am in total agreement.

I can not stand for a whole game but if I purchase tickets where a lot of people are standing my bad luck. On the other hand when everyone in a section is sitting except for one jerk who does not care how many people ask him to sit down. That is a matter of being reasonable.
Standing or jumping up for exciting plays is something almost everyone does.

Yeah, I agree!! The Godzillatron has turned into an Adzillatron over the last few years. I hope they fix the loudspeaker system too!

“He loved pretty girls and they seemed to like him. He had perfected the request for a kiss on the cheek and then with a quick turn, caught them on the lips.”

Hmm. People be getting fired for less than that today.

I came back to a game last year from NC after a long time away, with my wife. We both hated that obnoxious thing; it really detracted from the team, the band, the cheerleaders, and the sound of the fans. We have enough electronics in our lives already; football should be a return to a simpler time...

Yeah, I get that, but I don't believe that the UT athletic program is so poor that we have to blast out continuous commercials in the middle of Longhorn games. Perhaps someone can talk the UT ROTC into instigating a little commando raid and blowing that dang thing up. That's what Texans do in the face of tyranny, isn't it??

    1991,

The Athletic Department may be awash with cash, but they still need more to pay for the bimbo on the sideline providing us with crap we could live five lifetimes without knowing or watching, and also the midget badhatter that thinks anyone other than his mother gives a **** about seeing him or having to listen to what he has to say. It would be nice if our gameday experience did not include the cutesy minor league baseball entertainment.

Our beloved university is being run by a retired navy admiral, so I think that eliminates any help from ROTC; and yet one more Berzerkley reject engineer, who probably had never seen the jumbotron until he was made president, but now thinks it is an engineering marvel to be protected at all costs.

If you want to purge our campus of anything, I would say anyone who graduated from Berzerkley, ever went to school there, or ever spent more than 8 hours on that campus. After Berdahl & Powers, I would think that anyone that likes, much less loves, The University of Texas would NEVER recommend anyone from Berzerkley to hold anything from The University other than a oneway ticket back to the left coast.

20,000,000 Texans and we end up Powers and Fenves as UT Presidents. Horrible.

    Ivan,

Don't stop there, Berdohl was also from Berzerkley, and then there is that Michigan cow college reject Cunnngham, who single handedly hired Mackovic.

The only time I like the sound up is when it's kickoff and they crank up "WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE"

For a real school with a real program and tradition, any ******** music played over the jumbotron at kickoff should be drowned out by the roar of the crowd.

THERE SHOULD NEVER BE A SINGLE NOTE OF MUSIC PLAYED OVER THE JUMBOTRON!

Yes, I am old enough to remember DKR sending student managers over to Dinino (sp) during the OU game to ask him to play "Texas Fight", but those days have passed. Let the LHB play, use the jumbotron for replays and recognition. Leave the cheesey commercials for Jerry Springer, Maury, & Cops.
