Some of the history in this article was new information. The Globetrotters are taking credit for the racial integration of the NBA. Didn't realize they actually won championship over some early NBA teams (before integration). They now want to be a new franchise in the NBA. Yes, some of the NBA's all-time greats got their start with the Globetrotters but now aren't they just some has been group of players with some expert trickshots? They'd get pasted by even the worst NBA team. In fact, most college teams would likely crush Harlem. In the end this is likely just hoping to create a viral marketing moment.
You're right. They make no sense to join the NBA today as all the great basketball players are already on one of the 30 NBA teams.
