Heat in Food

    No one else may find this curious, but I do.

    I am hosting an exchange student from Yemen. She downed a bowl of Chicken Kalimirsch without hesitation, a dish I absolutely can't touch because of the heat. Yet, she could not handle the hot hatch chilis at Central Market, nor the mustard at the the local Chinese take-out, two things I eat without hesitation.

    Anyway, I find it interesting how culture shapes what we consider to be hot food.
