George Springer had a Series: • 8 extra-base hits (most in a World Series) • 5 HRs (ties WS record) • 29 total bases (most in any postseason series)
As an added bonus, I bet $20 on the Astros to win the World Series in July. Now I need to go back to Vegas to collect! Too bad I didn't bet more.
Altuve later quoted as saying "I love that guy, man...I love that guy. Really, we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him...I love that guy"
That can't be right. There's no way in the entire history of Major League Baseball that Charlie Morton is the first pitcher to win 2 game sevens in a single postseason.
Remember that for a long time, there was no Division Series (five game sets) and few of the Championship Series ever WENT to a Game 7. In fact, it was only something like 1985 that the Championship Series expanded to seven games. There are only 40 or so World Series that went to a Game 7, so the pool of potential shots at winning two of them is substantially smaller than one might guess at first blush...
I had forgotten there was a time, that I can remember no less, where there were just 2 divisions in each league and the winners faced off for the penant so you're right, the history of multiple 7 game series is quite short.
Having the best OPS+ in the modern era is awesome, but to be fair that isn't really the best metric out there. My favorite metric of offensive performance is weighted runs created, or wRc. When wRc is compared to other teams in a season and normalized to 100, you get wRc+. The 2017 Astros are in rarefied company on that measure: Ten teams are ahead of the 2017 Astros, and three others are tied with them. All 13 of these teams are legendary. Will we look back on these Astros in the same light?
We know what wRC is but for the purposes of this thread, we only show metrics that demonstrate the one true best team of all time
Jose Altuve is the GOAT Today he won his 4th consecutive Silver Slugger Award. In Astros history, only Hall of Famer Craig Biggio has won more (five).
