I'm good with him coming. I'm not good with him becoming a focal point for everything we're doing, calling him a "generational talent" that we HAVE to have or the whole thing is a shambles. Got too many people already who see themselves as bigger than the team. NIL won't help that, and putting an 18-year-old on this kind of pedestal isn't either.
I think most of us probably feel this way.....but if we do't get in the game, we're really gonna suck.
Oh I agree, it's probably the way of the world now. But that doesn't make it taste any better. College football hasn't been much fun the past few years for a lot of reasons, most of it self-inflicted pertaining to Horn football.
Legal on the table or illegal under the table? Which is it? If we always held true to our stated values, we have always avoided the SEC due to the graft, corruption and "if you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin" ethic. Now the playing field is level and we can proudly compete with our wallets; the same as the SEC has always done it. Am I wrong?
No ******* way I would debase myself like that. If the kid wants to play here, great! But I'm not about to sign some idiotic petition for anybody.
You're right. Though "level" is relative to the alumni business owners and 501c3 conglomerates, but that's true for education quality (and everything school have always sold over other schools). But I'm ok with that. I'm no socialist/communist when it comes to recruiting advantages.
Well, level meaning the risk of getting caught has pretty much been eliminated. It's like PED's. If you legalize them then it's a level playing field. But to your point, even if I were a user, I don't think I'd win any gold medals. But at least I wouldn't be labeled a cheater. Communists:
I look at it this way: We've been accused for decades of "throwing our money around," and "running the league" and a bunch of other things that were probably marginally true. That'll always be the narrative, so now that we're going to just flat out pay kids, I'm perfectly OK with being good at doing it.
What does "We're Texas" really mean? It means this collective (but not communists) has somehow achieved this level of power and wealth. There is no reason not to pursue what is legal. And if people complain, well that's an old story. Just as it is a soldiers right to complain, to resent the rich is the also right of all who are not.
If winning is now largely about money then we stand a better chance of a return to winning ways - nothing to be done about it so let's leverage our advantages
I think we have to get used to recruits acting like pro's now. The money is everything. That's what Avery Brundage said (I posted it earlier): "As soon as you take money for playing sport, it isn't sport, it's work." My desire for him to transfer to UT is that the bandwagon will begin to move...
I want Ewers if he is dedicated to the team and program....mainly because I believe he will bring a certain attitude that might be a good ingredient for the team. Who knows....could prove detrimental. Looks to me like he has a real raw..blue collar country-style grit and stubbornness that might bring us an edge we've lacked. Reminds me of Bruce Willis or Mel Gibson in those cop movies. You know, the one you have to go drag out of bed and he's a disheveled, unpredictable, and honory rebel....but the best ?!%& cop there is...
Poster on 247 says that it's a done deal and that the only thing stopping him from the announcement is NIL details.
The laughing hasn't stopped since 2011! One more chuckle isn't going to hurt. I say go all in on the guy! Best case he wins the Heisman Trophy within 2 years. Worst case he's the biggest D-Bag in UT history. Considering our current QB situation, I can live with anything in between!
