    Salt will also cause water to boil at a higher temperature. In theory, adding salt to your water when boiling food should cook it faster. Both freezing point depression and boiling point elevation are colligative properties, meaning that they depend on the amount of material in solution. So, the more salt you add the lower the temperature of your ice water will get, up until the point that the ice water is completely saturated.
