    Here's the Sitrep. (Synopsis)

I'm trying to instal some shelves in my living room and keep f-ing up the alignment. Is there some sort of plaster or #$#@ that I can use to fill screw holes on my wall...and cover with touch-up paint.....if so, where do I find this stuff?..Homo Depot?

How large are the holes/gouges/whatever? Buy a bucket of wallboard compound (the stuff used for taping & floating) and use it to fill the holes. If the holes are larger than a pulled-out screw, read one of these:

    My links didn't work.

    Try this:

    Go to Home Depot

And put "how to fix a hole in a wall" in the search box.

Among the results, you should get "Patching Small Holes in Wallboard" and/or "Patching Large Holes in Wallboard".

And, probably more useful, should be one called "Constructing a Built-In Shelving Unit"

If you have drywall (aka sheetrock, gypsum board etc.), there are patching compounds in the drywall section of your hardware store.

I've found that white toothpaste works very well if you're just looking for a cosmetic solution (and it's a white wall)
