I knew immediately what you were reffering to when I read the thread title. Bobby Gentry - Ode to Billy Joe. She was a looker... The song always reminds me of the hot summer of 1967 - hearing it in the late evenings on a small transistor radio I had while at Worth Ranch - Scout camp. It was located on the Brazos River, not far from Palo Pinto / Mineral Wells.
The bridge mentioned in the song is literally feet from Bryant’s Grocery & Meat Market, where Emmett Till’s seemingly harmless actions cost him his life in 1955.
