Wasn't aware that he was a big Texas fan growing up. He says if Texas had offered he would have at least taken an official visit. Wonder what the story was about Texas not at least contacting him? I am sure some will say it's a grade thing, but we have taken a chance on kids with loads of talent and marginal grades in the past.

I think he stepped on a lot of toes...with those giant shoes. Not to mention that goofy look he had on his face.

Sometimes it's grades, sometimes it's drama. After the RP fiasco, it seemed Mack grew tired of clowns that waited until the last minute and then called a press conference.

From the Rivals article on his decision:
    The Link

"But, he said, Tuscaloosa simply was too far from home (400 miles). "

"Several factors led Clowney to Columbia. First and foremost was proximity to home."

If Tuscaloosa was too far from S.C., I think Texas would have been a further reach, geographically and culturally.

Maybe the UT staff were aware of his "homeboy" feelings and figured there were other fishes in the sea that had a better odds of hooking.

It seems that his mother wanted him to go to school close to home but in an article I read, it was questionable whether he would gain admission to S. Carolina and the Clemson people are saying he couldn't get in to Clemson. Sounds like some grade issues there.

We need to offer this guy IMMEDIATELY if we have not.

This guy is a difference maker.

Him and Jeffcoat on the same DL for Texas would be splendid indeed.

Use the 'ship we were going to give Westerman.

What about a guy that has a press conference two weeks after Signing Day and says things like:

"As soon as I step in there, I'm going to start."

makes you think he is a Mack Brown type player?

He would have run the wheels off of that tiny car that he and the rest of the defense shared, going back and forth between Austin and home. Oh, and grades/qualification were said to be issues all along. No point in offering kids that can't get in at UT.

    He's an amazing player.

    He will be a star.

There are rumors being floated that if he were born 20 years earlier he would have ended up at aggy or SMU.

    Just sayin.
