    Football = Cash.
There will be football in some form.
    Delayed season?
    Shortened season?
    Split season?
    Fans?
    No fan?
    It will happen.

“Some of the now 13 sailors who have retested positive in fact had reported symptoms to the medical crew, the official said.“

“The official said it is not clear if sailors have somehow been re-infected or if very low levels of the virus have remained in their bodies and testing had not caught it.”

Note they didn’t say they had symptoms the first time, only the second time.

This re-infection BS is fear porn. Besides if they survived the first time, and there is partial immunity at the least, what’s the problem getting a lesser version the 2nd time?

I beg to differ, but that is life in a free country.

The first time it says they HAD the virus.
I think symptoms pretty much go along with that.

No, they tested positive. Due to the possibility of a false positive, they likely did NOT have the virus. The test is not perfect. Some will test positive when they are not infected in actuality.

From what I can gather when reading the article, some sailors tested positive. It is not clear they had symptoms - the article is silent on that. Then, the sailers tested negative twice before returning to duty. Then, they tested positive WITH symptoms. The first case was likely false and the second case likely true.

"Fear porn" is not a real thing, except perhaps in the sufferer's mind. Who knows? In any case it is not germane to an intelligent discussion of the pandemic now occurring.

Neither are asymptomatic carriers well understood with regard to per centage of the population, if they are only future victims or if they indeed do transmit the virus to others.. As the article mentioned, asymptomatic means "no symptoms" whatsoever. There have been some citations that asymptomatic carriers still shed the virus. That would imply that infections are thus spread by them. This whole issue has to be researched more intensely with adequate controls.

Also a problem in the US is that most testing is not that accurate, so it is not yet possible to establish why some survivors test positive, then negative, then positive again. Tests themselves have to be refined to a better standard. Even then, they will have to increase in availability in the US by a 100 fold and be free to be effective in controlling the pandemic by identifying individuals at risk. Constant testing will be a fact of life once reliable tests are developed and produced and distributed in sufficient quantities. The previous national responses to polio and measles was on a much higher level than the current one to COVID-19.

Regardless, the only sure thing known about this virus is that it can have serious effects on even survivors. More study is required to understand completely why it is so devastating for some, but only a minor or truly asymptomatic experience for others. One thing is certain, there are no known immune demographic groups. There are only known to be more susceptible demographic groups.

I remember when drug testing was being developed across manufacturing lines. Competitors were scrambling to get their test onto their own equipment and while the sensitivity often was excellent the specificity was not always as good. We were are scrambling to get our own automated version to the Syva testing which was the gold standard at the time. There were many false positives. I remember in our case we had an instance where a buffer from another methods test was leaking - infinitesimally so very hard to determine - such that it caused the drug test to be positive. It was one in every 50 or so that was erroneous. But that was enough to cause great consternation as you can imagine.
I suspect the Incredible demand on getting tests out for this virus at such an early stage of understanding may contribute to false negative (and positive) testing. There are so many nuances in viral testing.

I think the root of the problem is that there is a subset of people who actually think that they can avoid the virus until a vaccine is available. Thus, news like there is no immunity or possibly no vaccine due to mutations shake their world view. These folks either need to face the fact they are getting the virus, or they need to stay indoors till Spring 2021. In either case, they don’t appear to be ready to make adult decisions about re-opening the economy. People who need a job, surgery or a biopsy don’t care about others’ fear about the virus.

You are hitting on something else here, too, MC.
It took me a while to fully grasp this -I guess, obvious- fact but, while the views/divisions amongst people related to CCP Virus has taken many forms, alot of this boils down to many just aren't scared and many are. Been fascinating to see the contrast. I could go further but I'll save it for West Mall.

So their talking about spacing, ok understood, but how are you going to determine who gets to fill those discuss and who gets told, “sorry you cannot come”. Sucks because I’m thinking I’ll be the “can’t come” due to my age.

Whole thing looks like a scene from Dumb and Dumber to me, nash.
You should have heard an official for a municipality giving a public news conference to instruct community members on proper ways to handle tennis balls as they reopen parks.
Sometimes reality is stranger than fiction.
I've must go find that later and link it...

Here is what we know. Anything else is purely speculation for fear porn:
    - you can’t get the virus twice
    - neutralizing antibodies are developed in the body to prevent re-infection
    - it’s likely the immunity protection lasts years
    - I suppose the virus could mutate into something worse, but that is equally likely as another lurking virus causing a pandemic due to a recent mutation. In other words, no extra risk than we face every day. Also, mutations tend to lessen the severity of the virus.

It would be great if all of this was based on solid intelligence and testing, but it isn't due to the lack of time for absolutes to be formed. The US Navy and others who claim to have treated the virus disagee with this hypothesis, but as long as there is hospital space for flare-ups, things can start to get back to normal. The guide is do what you feel comfortable doing until there is a vaccine next year.
