Kenneth Sims has passed

Never before and never since have I seen a player take over a game the way he could.

For those who do not know, this was a kid from Kosse with NO major offers. Two of our coaches would not let up until Fred agreed to use one of the "holding" scholarships on him.

I couldn't stand Ron Meyer, but when he left SMU to take over the Patriots, he was asked what he would do with the #1 pick in the draft:

"There are actually two drafts; there's Kenneth Sims, then there's everybody else"

He was so proud to invite the Longhorn faithful to an open house at the new home he had built for his mom in Kosse. As I recall, it was a Sunday afternoon.

Did any of y'all make it?

Ya know, some fine young people have worn the Burnt Orange over the decades. We have been blessed.
And it's not limited to men or to football.

A very exceptional player who continued the legacy of great Longhorn defensive tackles during that time period: Doug English, Brad Shearer, Bill Acker, Steve McMichael and Tony DeGrate just to name a few.

I pray that God comforts his family and close friends.

I just read the news on “Special K’s” passing. So hard to imagine him gone. My late wife met him as a teenager and was very impressed with him throughout his career. Sadly both of these beautiful souls are in heaven now. Rest in peace to this small legend. “Special K”, #77 forever in our hearts and thoughts.

Small town legend. Left that out, there was nothing small about him, just the town of Kosse where Fred and Ken Dabbs recruited him. Correct me if I am wrong? Rest in Peace big #77.
