Leading Candidates?

If I'm Beard I stay in Lubbock, where he is worshiped. Beard doesn't seem to fit the Austin mode, but then again, Vic doesn't either.

He's a UT grad, coached under Penders. He's all UT...

Not sure if we can afford him. Seems the ex player donors all want Royal Ivey. That would be a reach though.

He's leaving Tech next TH, it will either be dumpster fire Indiana or dumpster fire Texas.
Just like y'all thought Tadlock would leave to.
Beard is the 4th highest paid coach in the nation. I have no doubt that Tech would match any offer. Plus, is gf is a high school coach in Frenship and his kids are in Abilene.

I just hope it's not Boynton from OK State. His strategy this year was "get the ball to Cunningham" and we don't have anyone like that.

I'm super-interested in Jerrance Howard from KU if we can nab him. He was an assistant under Larry Brown at SMU before moving back over to Bill Self (his college coach when he played for Illinois). He apparently has recruiting connections from Chicago to Texas and the players at KU love him.

I think Underwood would see Texas as a step down.

Had Will Wade not been super-dirty, I think he would be a great fit in Austin.

Brad Underwood

Sampson has never had a player at any stop that went to class. Really a good coach though.

You guys are friggin delusional. Beard will not be leaving Tech for the dumpster fire that is UT.
100% wrong on your assessment of UT. People like to work for CDC. This is self evident from the coaches he hired. Look at softball, WBB, and football coaches. The dumpster fire thing is correcting itself.

Ivey is intriguing for many reasons but I fear his lack of head coaching experience.

Beard feels like a slam dunk as long as the money works - local sports talk referenced the possibility UT pays it's basketball coach the same or more than it's football coach which just feels upside down.

Underwood is strong but a little more of a gamble in my mind - wouldn't be disappointed though.

Anyone else willing to move is questionable as they'd either be another mid-major Shaka type with a spark of excitement from an unexpected run that hasn't proven it long term, a success from a blue blood that's leaving their school for what I'd consider a tier below blue blood in basketball so why, or a burnout big name. That said, CDC pulled Sark out of a hat and that appears to be a home run so I trust him to make the right hire.

Dana Dean Altman-why not poach another Oregon coach? Pretty good record of sucess, but do we bid against Phil Knight??

Whoever they hire, the next coach has the unique opportunity to build his own team in year one via the portal with the depletion of the current roster. The right hire could/needs to generate excitement for this and to prep for the move to the Moody Center.

Hearing all the names above in reporting as well as Musselman.

Shaka can’t coach and makes too much money. If you feel that way, I get it. However, many of you same people are calling for Beard. This I can’t understand. Shaka’s team finished above his team this year, Tech just barely beat ACU in Lubbock. I could go on, but it is pointless: I have no suggestions, but I am sure we will have this same type of message board conversation in 3-4 years if Beard is the replacement.

Once thing I know is CDC doesn't think at all like us in his hiring process. I bet we'll get a coach that we've never considered and we'll like him.

I've certainly liked his hires so far - softball, Vic for WBB, and Sark, I await with considerable interest for news of MBB!
For better or worse I think we have one choice and a dark horse. I am glad we did not get Urban and picked up Sark. Maybe this is the same but I sure like the choice.

this. I can't imagine anyone wanting to stay in Lubbuttocks much longer than it takes to get a few cool mil deposits and a resume filler in.
My wife's nephew lived there for a while and actually liked it. His wife on the other hand... she disliked it so much that she divorced him and moved to New York.
