Early line just came out. No O/U yet. I think the land thieves will be fired up even more after their loss on Saturday.
OK ... I'm aware of the bookies and the Vegas odds makers. I've never understood this "line" business. Does this mean Texas is predicted to win by 7.5 points? Or the Horns fall by no more than 7.5 points? Does this tell you ... I don't gamble.
OU is favored by 7.5, which means if you take the Sooners, they have. to win by 8. If you take the Texas and the points, Texas has to lose by less than 8.
thanks Sabre. My weapons/tactics officer was always on me about Texas and "the line" I think he was more interested in harassing me than educating me.
ShAArke, Don't know when that was, but during our 30 game winning streak, Coach Royal covered 29 times. Baylor in Waco being the only exception.
The truth is that the line tells you nothing about what Vegas oddsmakers actually think about the outcome of the game. The line is designed to entice an equal number of bettors on each side of the bet, which is why the line changes day to day, based on the number of bets being places on a particular team. The casinos/bookies always win, of course, because they're simply taking a percentage of all the bets that are placed.
Shaark, O/U means “over and under” the total combined points of the two teams. Just in case you were wondering.
Is Texas going with the White Stormtrooper look or will they be in Orange? Based on what we have seen on defense by uni, I will gladly take those points if Texas is in white. Orange...not doing ANYTHING with points. Will instead look at moneyline and the O/U once gameday rolls around.
Impossible to bet this game. Another poster said it best, whoever wants this game the most will win, regardless of the points. Think of the point spreads in 1989, 1990 and 2013.
I wish this were the case. I think our guys will be motivated higher than a kite. No one will want this game more than our guys.
Teams that go into a game higher than a kite often fold when faced with challenging circumstances. Herman has to convince them that one on one they are better than the ou player across from them, and then play like it. Except the ou players. In this particular game I believe the difference will be which rookie coach will make the most coaching mistakes will doom his team.
Sooners beat OSU by 15 Maryland beat us by 10 OSU beat Maryland by 48 So wouldn't that mean that the Sooners should be favored to win by 73?? What are these Vegas Oddsmakers thinking? HA! Just having some fun, but my mind did work like this when I was a kid.
The Sooners beat a very good Ohio State team in Columbus. That was impressive. Then they lose at home to Iowa State. That makes no sense, but it is a funny game like that sometimes.
Good point! We beat IASt by 10 and they beat OU by 7 so by my reasoning we should be favored by 17!!! No wonder I was never a good sports gambler.
Just think how poor Kansas feels being a 21 point dog to the cornchips... I also worry about the oddsmakers come November 4th when KU and BU match up...the Great Battle of Suck.
18-20 year old young men for the most part. Sometimes they will make everyone of us scratch our heads. Can't imagine my job depending on their performance. That said, when I was that age, no way would I commit to anything at the level these young guys do when it comes to football.
I have to think this is advantage TH. He has been a head coach and LR has not. Let's hope LR is still figuring things out and screws the pooch.
This is how I always remembered when we played the aggy game at their place, in odd years because odd aggy
I was trying to say that "wanting it most" will not be the deciding factor; and that no one will want it more than our players... except like you said, "the ou players." Both teams will want it the most. I think ou overlooked ISU. ISU just lost to us, lost their starting QB and ou was on a roll. Who would have thought ISU had a chance? Only ISU. They had 10 days to prepare, and boy did they take advantage of it. ou won't make the same mistake twice. I think the only reason they might win is that their QB is a legit Heisman finalist. He will light up our secondary if we can't get HUGE pressure on him.
