Anybody else find it odd that there is a women's college basketball tournament over the Thanksgiving Holidays at the Cedar Park Center featuring George Washington, University of Houston, Iowa, Wright State, Creighton, East Carolina, Eastern Washington, and Northwestern?
Yes, I thought it was really odd when I heard the team line-up didn't include any Texas teams. I wonder if anyone will attend?
I was wondering if anyone even knew about it. I found out because I saw the Creighton team at a hotel in Austin and did a google search to find out why they were here.
I did a search and found a Statesman article from the Summer. Apparently the marketing Director at the Cedar Park Center moved here from Florida, and had organized a similar tournament there. The article did say they hope to have either Texas or the Ags in the future, and that Baylor had also expressed interest. Oh, and they're looking to do a men's tournament also. http://www.mystatesman.com/news/spo...tball-tournament-set-for-cedar-park-ce/nnFrm/
I went to one of the games yesterday - Iowa and GW. Good game. Very small crowd. A decent contingent of Iowa fans. I sat behind a trio of local highschool girls watching the game. Went to overtime. I wanted to see UOfH but schedule did not work out.
That was a top 25 matchup, glad it turned out to be a good contest. If I had known about the tournament sooner I would have tried to make a game or two. Looks like it's going to be an annual event so I'll definitely get there next year.
This is no less weird than the men's team going to China to play Washington and then soon after playing them a second time in the Bahamas. There is a consistent basis between the out-of-state tournaments, but not sure what it is.
