Mack Brown comments

At McConaughey wedding. On recent recruiting losses:
"Sometimes people panic when you lose a guy," Brown said. "We might have been trying to lose the guy. Maybe we didn't want him and he didn't fit us. And in some cases, we've moved on long before the public moves on."

Ten years ago, there would have been a "coachspeak" line about doing what's best for everyone involved. Now he's brutally honest and I dig it. Mack could've always used a little "Spurrier" in him.

I'm at the point in the season where if Mack called a press conference to discuss the incoming freshmen's stereo equipment and subsequent efforts to install them in the dorms, I'd be stoked to listen to it and figure out if a better bass response might get us an extra 2-3 catches per game from the tight ends this year.

I find it refreshing that he's more direct and less read between the lines. In that context, he didn't mention RSJ nor Rhodes. The recruits he was talking about may have been guys who camped out and even though they were highly touted, they didn't fit in with the team.

 

So no one thinks the new Mack is maybe just Mack with a cocktail or two?

 

I’ve always thought Mack was about a daiquiri and a half away from true candor.
