Today is Memorial Day - a national day of remembrance where we honor the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

At some point today, even for a just a brief moment of your time, please consider taking a moment of silence to remember their selfless courage and show our gratitude for their service. Include your family, too, and explain that the freedoms we enjoy were paid for by these true American heroes.

My youngest grandson is named after my mother-in-law's brother who was killed in the Philippines in 1944. I think about his sacrifice every time I go over to my daughter's house as she has his purple heart and flag displayed in her china cabinet in the dining room.
